So, my son Nick turned 18 in Sept, and like

his older brother Matthew he had to register

with the selective service.

So, my question is this…

seems everyone is for equal rights, so do you think

females should have to register for the selective

service when they turn 18?

Well, I think the military should always be voluntary. As far as the Selective Service, it should be equal.

I think it's antiquated and barbaric that you HAVE to register for selective service. Doesn't the very name imply that it's SELECTIVE? As in, I select if I want to go in or not? /dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

However, if males HAVE to register, then yes, women should have to as well. It should be an age based think, not a gender based thing. IMO.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

I didn't know that women weren't included in the selective service thing…guess I never really thought about it.

Yes, I think women should have to register for the Selective Service.

But, agree they need to change the name, because of what it implies.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my post from the "Kitchen Thread". We all say we are for "equal" rights, but we don't live it. Tell me just one good reason why a woman should not have to sign up for the Selective Service? Women should not be treated like the delicate flower. They are adults with the same responsibilities as males. I am not for equal when convenient either! Rights are rights. Responsibilities are responsibilities. Period.

Does equal opportunity come under this question or is that another issue entirely?

It is not a separate topic. It's all under the same umbrella.

"Equal" is a funny word that should not be included. It should just be "Rights", without regard to any other factor. We're ALL just fellow Human Beings.
