The soundtrack for True Blood features a couple of cover tunes, Cobra Verde doing a version of "play w/fire" and The Watson Twins doing a rendition of The Cure's "just like heaven."

I'd heard that Bob Dylan liked Jimi Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" so much that he started performing it the way Hendrix arranged it.

Jim and I were talking about this the other day. There are certain songs that I feel should never be covered. Of course there are two types of those songs:

a ) songs that are perfection as they are, nobody could do them justice, don't try

b ) songs that were so terrible that they shouldn't be covered because who the hell would ever want to hear them again

there's maybe a third category - one hit wonders - don't cover them, it's their only glory...but we'll leave those out.

What songs should never be covered for either reason above?

A few of mine category A:

	Let It Be (Beatles)

	Comfortably Numb (Floyd)

	Stairway to Heaven (Zep)

Layla (original version - not the crappy cover he did later) (Clapton/Cream)

	Hotel California (Eagles)

	Foreplay/Long Time (Boston)

	Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)

	Category B:

Anything with Max Headroom in it

	Radio Gaga (Queen)

Don't Cry Out Loud (Melissa Manchester)

	Babe (Styx)

	Yours??

I love covers and it would be hard for me to put them in a category.

At concerts, it's great to here a band do a cover or two.

The Stones and Floyd, can be off key and out of tune in concert.

The last thing, I want to hear at a concert is their exact recording of a song.

But, bring something else to the table, jam or take a different spin on their own work.

When the Stone's do this they shine!

I could not stand Last Kiss, by Wayne Cochran And The C. C. Riders. Not a big seller. remember slow dancing at the prom to it.

But, when Eddie sang it, it became magic to my ears.

A cover of a cover by the same band. Stones, **** Tonk Woman and Country Honk. Love both versions.

	Funny, Yesterday, great song.

Guiness Book of records, lists Yesterday as the most recorded song.

	Over 300 versions recorded.

I do think, some songs should not be touched, Yesterday is one of them.

My favorite song, is my favorite cover, by two of my favorite artists. lol

Like A Rolling Stone, Dylan and The Stones.

Edit, I LMAO when **** was editted out of Tonk Woman, but get why now.

But, it does have two meanings, and when you add Tonk after it! /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

	Now, I have The **** Tonk Blues! /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
