I think we've found a nice common ground Monk /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

We both agree that together Waters & Gilmour are far superior to

either of them apart. And I'll be willing to concede that there is probably

enough blame to go around in regards to the split /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

There a nice peace treaty has been brokered /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

It was all Syd Barrett's fault. That's right, I blamed the crazy guy. I WENT THERE…

If Gilmour had been with the group from the beginning, instead of being invited in by Syd on his way off to the booby hatch, they might've had enough common ground to appreciate what the other brought to the group. As it was, I think each was somewhat jealous of the other, and Syd Barrett was the only thing they really had in common.

At some point, most great bands self-destruct due to unresolved jealousy between the most talented members. It's either that, or the drummer dies…

It's funny you should bring that angle up Jyb, I knew some people in college who were way into underground/indie music scene and would tell me they lost all respect for pink floyd after Barrett left the band.

and I always figured they wouldn't have ended up as big as

they were if Syd had not gone crazy and left, thus bringing

in Gilmour (and it KILLS me to admit that /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> )

Stevie Ray covering Jimi's "Voodoo Chile" is quite inspiring, no?

Yes, Dawkins. I believe it is.

However: Dolly Parton covering REO Speedwagon's "Time For Me To Fly" in bluegrass mode…is NOT!

Well considering a major theme running through the bulk of floyd's post barrett catalog is insanity they got to see it first hand. Not to mention one of their biggest releases ever (Wish you were here) is said to be about him. There are some funny stories surrounding that. The most obvious being Syd Barrett actually showing up for the sessions for a day. The band hadn't seen him in years and he'd shaved his head (and eyebrows), had put on a ton of weight, dressing this outrageously garish outfit complete w/a yogi bear tie holding a toothbrush. They had no clue who he was initially but one of the old roadies told them. They'd been trying to work out the material for awhile and didn't have names for anything. In fact they'd been calling the material "Nothing parts 1-24". The band members, Roger in particular, were quite stunned by his presence/appearance. Waters has claimed in interviews I've read and heard that he didn't INTENTIONALLY write this stuff w/Syd in mind necessarily, but after seeing Syd it helped crystalize what he was going for after all.

I of course had heard the story about Syd showing up while they were recording,

but I hadn't heard all those details about it. Thanks Monk /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

You know, I was watching that link you sent me of them doing Cymbaline in rock quarry tune up and being told the PAs were too lound. It reminded me of a wild story I read about them. They were scheduled to play a show on a barge in the middle of a lake to crowds to be gathered on the surrounding shorelines/beaches. They had inflatables that were supposed to rise up out of the lake at different times during the concert (specifically an octopus, not octomom). Anyway, they played the show but when they'd finished they'd played so loud that the persistant vibrations that they generated killed most of the fish in the lake.

See Heidi, you are amongst friends here. Maybe not the friends you always dreamed of having, but at least we won't try to interest you in Scientology.

That's a point. A point however that needs more evidence. Still I might wish Stevie went one place, and someone like for instance, Jerry Falwell went some other place.

You're getting soft Dawk. If I didn't know any better I'd
