Kim, i understand it's not a convention…i guess i was asking how much the hotel and stuff is there.

I dont normally travel, so I have no clue what it would cost to travel from New Hampshire to Gettysburg,

and stay there a few nights.

It varies and there are quite a few hotels around the town. You should probaby google Gettysburg Hotels and check them out on line. I don't want to make any recommendations as something that might be ok for me might not be suitable for someone else. However, I have stayed in several and all are ok but prices can differ greatly. Also Carolyn (Gettysburg Lady) could help you decide. She is a hotel manager there.

I could offer a couple of suggestions. You'd need to figure out if you would drive or fly. If you decide you want to fly, you could check out Expedia or Orbitz and pretend like you are traveling this August and see how much round trip would be. Sometimes it pays to search the airlines that serve your airport and then look at the fares on their website versus the other ones. The next thing you could do, using those sites (Expedia and Orbitz) again, would be to scope out hotels in the area and get some guesstimates for hotel prices. Being a nerd, I always go to Trip Advisor to see what other folks say about hotels. I also go to Bedbugregistry.com because I don't need to bring critters home with me. If you are flying, I'm guessing you'd have to rent a car, so you could search for that as well. My husband and I have found that Dollar is usually the least expensive for rentals. A friend and I rented a condo type place when we went to Santa Fe a few years ago. We were able to split the cost of one rental since it had two sleeping areas, and we went to the grocery store for breakfast and lunch things, since the place had a kitchen. We saved food costs that way. We've also found that you can get pretty good savings if you have AAA. My husband and I saved about $100 in just the rental car for a week in Orlando alone. So, those are some suggestions to consider Heidi. I hope that helps.

Thanks Liz…among my miriad of phobias is flying, so I would be driving if I go.

But I'll check out the hotels and see what kind of prices they have in the summer /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Driving is much cheaper. I'd drive to Gettysburg, but its a long way from MN. Happy to help!

Oh, now that's completely do-able. It takes 8 hours to get from MN to Chicago and we've done that one quite a bit.

Second weekend sounds good. I just want to wait until I get some feedback from Gettysburg itself before going all out with promoting the idea. I wrote to the Chamber of Commerce and others to maybe get some feedback and pointers. Actually hoping they like the idea and support it.

Or, you could ask me by private messengering me with any questions you may have. I do live here.

The Chamber of Commerce and Gettysburg Visitor's and Convention Bureau is in the business of promoting businesses. I know which restaurants to avoid, which to patronize, which museums you should visit, etc. It is part of my job here at the hotel to give our guests the best experience they can have in Gettysburg. We want them to come back!

Ok, I just didn't want to put you out there or be presumptuous by expecting your help but since you offered it is greatly appreciated. If you don't mind being the point of contact for people with questions?

I understand about the chamber, etc. Just wanted to get their feedback on what they might think of it and of any conflicting events that might take a lot of hotel space away from this.

Not a problem at all, Kim. I'm happy to do whatever I can for my friends here at PUG. And, I want people to have a great experience here in Gettysburg. It is a very special place. I know you will agree.

Thanks, GB as I would never go to a comvention, love the meet up idea.

Gettsburg Lady, thanks for all the info and help.

I'd love to stay at your hotel, the diary had always peeked my interest.

Well, anything would do. Like Movieman said he got a PUG t-shirt and many groups have items you can buy.

If you like PUG, get a pug t-shirt, if you like GhostBreakers, get a GhostBreakers t-shirt, or TAPS, Ghost Adventures, Ghost Lab and so on, etc.

If you would rather not be associated with any individual group you could always go to a local place and have something made up that just says something like… Paranormalist or some catchy phrase of your choosing.

Then again, you could just run around yelling, "I'm one of you guys!" lol

That would be pretty easy to deal with as a couple of different meeting times could be arranged at resteraunts or elsewhere.

It would also be fairly cheap and easy to get t-shirts printed prior to the event "Paranormal Gathering 2010" or something similar. We'd still be keeping things loose and it might attract the attention of anyone interested but unaware of the event.

Also the best way to miss the traffic headaches around the various major cities (I'm guessing Boston, NYC & Philly in your case). It's what we do when driving to San Diego or Las Vegas from where we are (SF Bay Area). Leave at midnight-ish and pray for no snags in the Grapevine (when heading to SD). Usually we hit San Diego while traffic is heading out towards LA so it's clear sailing, the traffic is lighter heading South of LA towards Mexico/SD.

Always a good idea in my opinion. I go to Fla every year and leaving late gets me through, Phila, Baltimore, Wash DC, etc all in-between major traffic times. I also have found that staying on the straight and narrow by going right through major cities is actually quicker than the bypasses. Even with traffic it seems that more people take the bypasses. One word of caution though. Check for construction that is avoidable. That can put a whole new spin on all the good advice.

The last time Monkette and I went to Vegas, on the way home we were on some single lane highway through Bakersfield and got stuck at 2 or 3 am as a tractor trailer jack-knifed and had shut down the highway. We had Sirius satellite radio and flicked on the traffic/weather for LA and got great directions to get around the situation. As I don't have a gps i'm not sure how often it refreshes, but some electronic assistance always comes in handy for long trips if you don't know the lay of the land.

Ditto.

I just mapquested GL's Inn, and I am only 133 miles away, less then 3 hours, so that is very doable…

I'm 6 hours away, so that's an easy trek for me.

Carolyn, put me down for 2 of the suites!!!

If you can plan your trip, you really don't need to leave late at night……it's not hard to miss the traffic in the bigger cities.

Like Kim mentioned, it's usually quicker going through the city instead of the by-passes, everybody takes the by-pass.
