You KNOW I would love for everyone to come to Gettysburg! And, even better, to have everyone stay at my hotel. And it goes without saying that I would have you all in the main building doing an investigation after hours on my night (Saturday). So, if some of you are able and Gettysburg is the destination, do let me know. I can check on availability in August for each weekend. The best discount I could do is 10% because it is peak season in Gettysburg.

The battlefield is still in its summer hours and open from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. for those of you who want to investigate the battlefield as well. I have off on Friday, so I would be glad to take anyone around the battlefield. And, there is a brew pub/restaurant that is part of our property with a large dining area downstairs for private parties. So, you can imbibe to your hearts content and not have to worry about driving. The food is pretty good too.

What locations are around you that would make for a good meetup?

This is exactly what I was getting at. A meet up. No convention, no speakers, no formal anything. Just a good location for people to go to and casually meet with others in the paranormal field if they wanted to. I chose Gettysburg because of it's location, popularity, and it is a place that people frequent for many reasons. My thought was that the place has to be somewhere that people could have a nice little weekend regardless and meet people if they wanted to or not. Basically just putting out the word that people in the paranormal field will be decending on, Gettysburg, Savannah or wherever and see who shows up.

For me, Gettysburg is about 3 hours but it is close enough for people from Ohio, Virginia and W. Virginia, Maryland, NY, etc. Maybe I will just put the word out for Gettysburg for next summer, 2011. Gives people plenty enough time to make up their minds, make plans, book hotels, etc. For people in New England, maybe Boston. People in the SE, Savannah or St Augustine and so on for peoples respective areas.

Might be kind of interesting to see thousands of people wearing their group shirts and hats all over a town. Besides, it would be good for business for the town chosen.

I am going to give it some serious thought and check into things, like what is going on at certain times of the year etc.

Now I am off to pull some hair out. I am having serious issues with connecting a new router and I can't get my laptop to be recognized. Grrrrrr….. Later!

Up here in the Pacific Northwest, we have the annual Mt Hood Ghost Conference, in April. Our group and a few other groups are planning on meeting up there.

These types of things are great, and it makes it a lot nicer when you can put a face with a name!

Well, while we're on the West Coast, I'd look forward to traveling pretty much anywhere. I love going to new places, and as Carolyn knows, Gettysburg is at the top of our list of places to visit after Waverly.

Then maybe we could "swing by" New England and visit Heidi too. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

of if we all get rich there's the Mt. Washington Hotel /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I think Gettysburg is the best location for the North East. I looked at other places and although nice, Gettysburg is more centrally located for more states and has plenty of hotels and things to do. Now to pick a date for next August. That should be far enough out for people to plan.

Then to get everyone to understand that it is not a conference. I have noticed here and there where people are referring to conferences they attended and I don't want to give the wrong impression. There won't be celebrities, (although they are welcome to hang out like the rest) no planned investigations, etc. Just a relaxing mini vacation of sorts.

I remember something about some guy a while back twittering about wanting people to show up somewhere and thousands did. Does anyone remember that?

Here is a Gettysburg Map of Hotels. Of coures we have to fill up Carolyn's first.

Yes, we need to make it as affordable as possible for people.

We could have a set time for people to meet and chat, get to know one another, say the first evening we are there, then it's every man

or woman for themselves. If Carolyn can hook us up with an investigation at her hotel, that would be wonderful.

Having it in August, 2011 gives people enough time to plan. Who knows, maybe people from different parts of the country will be willing

to make the trek to Gettysburg.

There are so many things to do and see in Gettysburg, it makes it the perfect place for the Northeast.

We've done the Mt. Hood Conference. We enjoyed it. This year we cannot, since I've been laid off.

I think I will go with Gettysburg for next August. I'll check with Carolyn and the town too to see which weekend would be best. After I get a hold on it then I will be asking for everyone in the NE to start spreading the word and see what happens. Probably start spreading the word this summer. That gives everyone about a year to plan. I am already getting positive responses on my Facebook Fan page and other places. It could work! lol

It could definitely work.

One thing to think about is if someone wants to come, that has children, maybe we should make sure it is before the school year starts?

Yes….first 3 weekends in August……….

I think it would be the best thing to do…I would hate it if someone wanted to make it a mini vacation for their family,

then not be able to make it because school was starting.

You should note that the third weekend in August is the annual Bluegrass Festival in Gettysburg. We have plenty of time, if this is the destination location, to get reservations in because things fill up for that weekend. Please also note that most hotels, including mine, is on a 50 week reservation system. That translates to mean that reservations are not accepted in advance of that 50 week time period. Also, because Gettysburg is so popular, there are no waiting lists because it is almost a guaranty that rooms will be filled. HOWEVER, I can calculate to the day when those reservations should be entered into the system to book the rooms.

Another point I'll throw out there. From December 1st to March 31st, we have a Winter Special at the hotel. All of our regular rooms (non-smoking with one queen bed, non-smoking with two queen beds, (2) non-smoking with king bed, (1) smoking with queen bed and (1) smoking with two queen beds) are only $49, plus tax. The seven suites are $99, plus tax. This is a significant savings to the regular room and suite costs. To see the occupancy and amenities of the suites, you can go to our Facebook page, Quality Inn at General Lee's Headquarters. I have photographed all the suites and uploaded pictures there.

The upside to this time period is the cost savings and the fact that you will have no problems getting into restaurants and museums and will have the battlefield pretty much to yourselves. The downside would be that the battlefield will be in its winter hours which means that it opens at 6:00 a.m. and closes at 7:00 p.m. Also, the weather factor would have to be considered. I have lived here 9 years and these snow storms we have had in recent days are the first I have seen. The locals tell me that it is also highly unusual.

The really best time to come, however, is during the tourist season. The battlefield presents itself in its best light, there are hundreds of reenactors walking the streets, there are lots of free battlefield programs, ghost tours are in full swing and restaurants and museums have extended hours to accommodate the tourists.

While Kim has opened this up on his Facebook page to the masses, I would like to give my friends here at PUG first crack at my hotel. Just because. Our rates are normally just a little lower than those in town. We are literally on the battlefield and 8/10ths of a mile from the center of town – five minutes in your car. And, no, I'm not trying to sell the hotel. We are usually booked months in advance on its reputation and location alone. I just thought it would be a great place for PUG members to be located and to experience themselves what I have been writing about in my column for the past year and to also see the places I have been referring to in said column.

But, this is still in the "discussion" stage. Just giving you some information and things to consider.

August would be great. Works for my summer work schedule when I'm working pretty much seven days a week from Memorial Day to August 1st…when all my 180+ TIF reports are due to the State. Gettysburg August 2011 would be fun!!!!

Eh, I got nothin'

Just to throw my two cents in, I think a gathering like this is an excellent idea. It's something I've thought about myself so I guess great minds think alike!

There are plenty of conventions on a regular basis, so I think the concept of a large scale meet up is quite unique and has a lot of appeal. No pressure to rush to the next lecture or meet the "celebs"

I travel extensively so with enough warning, I can likely work the gathering into my schedule. Gettysburg is a great place for the first of what would hopefully be a series of get togethers.
