OfflineI hope to be able to camp in G-burg that weekend. Work has been busy with 6 – 10 hr days a week…….
Luckily, we live close enough that Mrs. O. and I could still drive over for an evening…….
I had reservations and plans to go but my traveling buddy is going to Seattle instead, so crud, I won't be there. I'm bummed.
OfflineOk folks here is a map of the town and some Points Of Interest. The Meet & Greet will be on Fairfield road/Route #116 Look for the SIGNS. I will not give out the address or exact location due to anyone being able to see it and I don't want non gathering people bothering them beforehand. I will post what signs to look for soon. If you like you can download the photo and add your own POI's and re-post.
I think we can have the PUG people meet at the Pike tavern/bar on Baltimore Pike. It is right next door to the hotel where the GhostBreakers are staying. We can decide on a day and time soon. Suggestions???
P.S. I am sorry Carolyn. My son surprised me with the room for a Father's day present.
Here is another map of ways out of town in case in town construction isn't finished. You can find the M&G and Fairfield where the Fairfield Inn is. I think I will eat there once this trip to see what it is like.I will add more info soon.
OfflineSo is there a final tally on who all is going to the MPG?
So far on the FB event page it says 136 attending but who knows exactly. I am hoping people will go downtown to the International Museum of Spiritual Investigations to sign their Gathering Guest book. It is at 231 Baltimore.
OfflineI'm not sure if I mentioned it here or not. But I had a buddy in college who had transferred in to our school (Seton Hall) from Gettysburg College and he had some rather interesting stories….most of which STILL bothered him as he didn't often discuss them. I asked him once if Gettysburg is really as haunted as people say. His response was something to the effect of "enough so that spirits walk in broad daylight down the street". The story he told to back it up was he'd gone w/his dorm roommate to pick up some supplies in one of the older sections of town. They passed some guys in period solider's garb and armed heading past them looking a little bedraggled and he commented to his friend how grim and serious they looked. They asked the shop keeper for information on the day's reenactment (time place cost etc), the merchant had no clue what he was talking about. So he explained what they'd seen. The man just smiled and welcomed them to historic Gettysburg. My friend was pretty level headed and not prone to tall tales, but this clearly shook him. When he'd mentioned it back at the dorm, he was shocked at how many people had similar experiences. By his description of events it sounded more like a residual haunting. I think he also mentioned that some of the college buildings dated to that time as well and people who frequented those older structures had many strange tales to tell. Sadly, I've lost touch with him over the years as I would've liked to get more information from him.
I've only been to Gettysburg once as a child because I was such a huge Civil War buff growing up and to have such a historic spot right in your area it was a no brainer, but all I remember was extremely warm/humid weather and the wax museum there.
Wish I were going w/y'all but it would ruffle some feathers in the family seeing as I've not been back east in some time and have not been attending family functions (except one) since coming to the left coast.

I have long maintained Gettysburg (the town and not the battlefields) is quite haunted in conflict with the average ghost hunter.
Your friends story holds up to the more credible stories of Gettysburg and elsewhere. In my experience the true sightings are hard to distinguish from a normal person at the time except for subtitles not easily noticed.
Several of the buildings at the college were there during the battle and used as hospitals. The admin building is one (with a very famous story) and where the new library is now was called blood lake at the time because of all the body parts thrown in the little marshy area which turned the water red with blood.
I am not one that believes in the residual haunt but the rift in time theory, visual vortex or what ever you like to call it, could be considered a common experience around Gettysburg and I lean more towards the idea that the battle was there not by human design but maybe by paranormal design. It's a stretch I know. Maybe I need to come on the show and talk about it. LOL

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a ghost anywhere in Gettysburg. Emotions must have been running so high in the town during the period before, during and after the battle.
I honestly cannot imagine what it would have been like to have lived there when all the troops were assembling. Can you imagine the rising tension in the air? Just the thought of being there while the battle was raging and during the hideous aftermath literally makes me ill. The carnage must have been unbearable.

I agree that the emotional tension would have been very high but was also thinking that the cumulative emotional effects of people 100+ years later who visit the sights and learn the history could also contribute to that tension. I know when I visited Dachau I was physically and emotionally affected by walking along the paths, coming upon the execution firing range, seeing the traincars on the tracks and learning the devastating history of that place. I did not see any ghosts but I was definitely feeling sick to my stomach and my nerves were shot with a hightened sense of disgust, anger and sadness. If little, old me was feeling that intense imagine if the other 200 visitors (or whatever is the average per day) were having similar experiences? Just thinking…

Actually You have a very good thought there Kim. As Years of Documenting and Researching the History as well as the Paranormal Activity if you will, there does seem to be possibly another theory on Gettysburg. Although I would not attempt to go into the theory without the other sources for that part of the science I leave to them-lol But it does seem that some of my Questionable Photos & EVPs back up their Theory as their Theory backs up My Photos and EVPs. It would be interesting to hear what you have to say on this : )

The Construction won't be finished. They slacked some just for the Anniversary and Bike week. Then they are going to be back at it, there are detours for 15. I do know they have many projects going on at once and it is going to get worse there. Just a heads up. Maybe it wont interfere with where all you have planned : )

Thanks for the info Cath. I guess people can get directions to Fairfield road from just about anyone in town or their hotels and the people at the IMSI Museum at 231 Baltimore can help guide people too when they go there to sign the Paranormal Guest Book.

OfflineJust a word of advice to anyone visiting the area for the first time….drink lots of water! Unless you "luck out" and get a summer storm the humidity and heat there will be a factor. It's been awhile since I was there, but I recall it getting a little dusty and dry when I last visited.

This is an excellent idea. It gets very hot and dry and is the reason we ask people not to smoke at the Meet & Greet. There is a lot of dry grass etc around. So if you plan to do any walking around town or the battlefields it is recommended to carry a water bottle. I was there last August for our Bigfoot shoot and it was 100 degrees in the woods.
OfflineI wanted to remind everyone that will be going to the Gathering to stop by the IMSI, the International Museum of Spiritual Investigations and sign the log/guest book for the Gathering.
It is downtown past the Farnsworth House and Ghost of Gettysburg Tours on the same side, at 231 Baltimore St.
OfflineI wanted to let people know of a rooms availability.
XXXXXX XXXX just posted this on the FB Gathering page.
Well, its official. We will not be attending the Gathering this year. I have a new job and we have incurred some unexpected expenses this spring and summer. This means that as soon as I call the Quality Inn at General Lee's Headquarters the General Lee suite will be available for that weekend. I was really looking forward to this trip.
So that suite will be available soon…
