I have thought about this for a while and was wondering what others might think. What would you as a paranormal investigator, ghost hunter, Cryptozoologist, UFO enthusiast, etc, think about all gathering at one place all at the same time? I don't mean a convention or paid investigation location but just all people from a geographical area descending on a pre-designated place for casually meeting each other, investigating or whatever. Sort of like what other groups do, like bikers have their biker weekends, etc.

My group goes to Gettysburg every year as a get together. Plenty of hotels, things to do, plus the historical and paranormal interests. There are many of these type areas around the country with this type appeal for people to do this. Not to spend money on a pay to investigate place or a convention, etc. Just book your hotel room, hang out and do your own thing.

Most everyone has T-Shirts or hats so groups and individuals would be easily recognizable for others to approach and just say HI! I hear many talk about unity in the paranormal. What better way than to get to know each other personally, than in a casual atmosphere rather than sitting in a convention where everyone wants that famous guys autograph, etc. Now that I think about it though, it would also be a great way for the Para-Celebs to get out and meet others individually on a casual basis without getting mobbed. Don't announce they are coming just show up for that weekend and hang out too.

So what do you think? Would this be something you would like to do as an annual getaway for you or your group to visit a place with like minded people without the expense and pressure of a conventions or a paid investigations rigid scheduled atmosphere? Opinions, ideas?

Sounds like a great idea, to meet and exchange methods there could be speakers and demonstrations of new equipment. How to spread the word might be a challenge though /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

My suggestion would be Gettysburg as one location for people on the East Coast. Those from other parts of the country can suggest their choices for a good gathering place.

I think it would be a wonderful idea……

It would be a great opportunity to meet each other, group or individual.

I, for one, have plenty of people that are on this forum, that I would love to meet and chat with.

Gettysburg would be the perfect place to meet. With the internet, I don't think it would be very difficult to get the word out.

It would be a great way to get to know people and exchange ideas etc. Just have to keep in mind that there is no formal agenda. Just everyone show up for the weekend. That way I think more would show.

A lot don't mind going to conventions and dropping a few hundred on them but they could use that money for their hotel, save a bundle and still get to meet a lot of people. I guess you could always set a time and specific place for all to meet to get an idea of how many actually showed up. Basically this idea is just to keep it as simple and cheap as possible. Yet get a lot of people to show up.

Yes, a lot of people have web sites, are on places like Facebook, MySpace, twitter etc. The word would spread fast.

We are going to Gettysburg on March 19th this year so that may be a little soon to get a gathering set? I guess someone would have to make sure something big wasn't going on the same weekend so there would be available hotel space etc.

The more I talk and think about it, the more I like the idea. Maybe Carolyn can give us an idea of a good weekend at the end of the summer that might be good for a Gettysburg gathering?

Maybe everyone who reads this will pass it along on their pages too and see what kind of responses we get?

Yes, March 19th would be a little soon. I think that the end of summer would be easier for people to plan.

I think you're right, Carolyn would be able to give us a head's up for the events in Gettysburg to prevent a major headache.

I'm with you, the more I think about, the more I love it.

Me too… I can always go for another trip to Gettysburg again at the end of the summer. I already put it out to my friends lists on other sites. Hope it gets a good positive response.

About what time of of year do you do this? A friend and I are talking about going to Gettysburg, but it probably wouldn't be for at least a year to a year and a half. Otherwise, I think we'd definitely be interested.

Eh, I got nothin'

A great place for the people in the South East. Savannah would also be a great place for people in the SE. I am going in July to check it out for a few days.

That would be cool. We could do one in Texas as well, since there are a few of us here on the boards.

St. Augustine is a great place, and so is Savannah…….which is one of my favorite places.

I would think that Texas would have some great places to meet also.

Someplace in the middle. Honestly, so many conventions are on the East Coast, us on the West gets left out. If you have one in the middle, it's equal travel on either side.

I think it's a great idea Kim!

We're doing something similar for PUG with our Waverly gathering this year. I can't wait for Waverly, and I'd love to meet up at Gettysburg or other locations as well!

This is why Chicago is the convention capital of the U.S…..or at least it was! Technically NOT the center of the states but time-wise the same amount of travel from west and east coast…or pretty close. Naturally, it could be in my backyard and I wouldn't attend as I'm odd that way.

I wish there was something closer to New England.

I'd love to have a "meet up", but even Penn is probably

too far for me /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

What locations are around you that would make for a good meetup?
