So today we had a Field Trip to a Skating Rink. I had NO plans to skate.

I CAN skate, or I could when I was a kid, but I havent skated in 30 years.

Well, as all the kids were getting their skates on, my inner New England

child was screaming "i want to skate!" and before I knew what I was doing

I was getting some skates on /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

The first 5 minutes the muscles in my lower front legs were SCREAMING.

but after 5 minutes my body and muscles remembered what this was

and I was flying around the ice just like when I was a kid /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> . I had

forgot how much fun skating was. I plan to go back with Colin for public

skating.

After 2 hours though my feet were yelling "you're 42 years old, what the HELL are you doing" /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I didnt fall at all, thank god, at my age if I fell I'm sure I would break something haha.

So now my feet are punishing me and walking is painful. I'm sure tomorrow

morning my legs will be paying me back /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

They took a ton of pics, if there are any decent ones of me I may

get brave and post them, but I wont know until I go back to school

on Monday /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

You couldnt grow up in small town New England and NOT skate.

it was a rule, no really it was /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

of course we grew up skating on bumpy ponds, not

nice smooth skating rinks haha, but skating is skating.

if you ever make it to new england cheryl i'll take you

skating. i helped 3 kids today who had never skated

before (including one little texas boy, ryan dont you

skate in texas /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ). by the time we left they were all

able to go skate without the crates for support /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

they were so proud of themselves.

honestly an awesome experience. i was so proud of all the kids.

So you are saying that you didn't push anyone down?

That's good, no really that sounds fun.

A rink would probably be better. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Hey Heidi, how long did you have to sit in the penalty box??

There's a major city in Canada, I can't remember which, that features a lot of canals and rivers. Apparently in the winter time, alot of people "commute" to work by ice skating on the frozen over water ways. They comment on it during hockey games but the name is escaping me, I want to say Ottawa, but I have a feeling it may be one of the Western cities.

The experts always say it's better to learn skiing and ice skating at an early age because there's a lower center of gravity making it harder to fall. If you do, it's no big deal shorter distance and not as much weight to make it really hurt or get injured as easily.

I can do neither, I tried ice skating and it was painful experience. I tried rollerblading too and it was even worse.

/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> None, I was a good girl /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

(hoping Monk bought that /unsure.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> )

I cant even remember learning to skate, that's how young I was.

But it was just part of growing up in my town. EVERYONE could

ice skate. As young kids we'd all grab our skates and head out

to the pond and spend the day skating.

It makes sense that it's easier to learn as a child.

I was surprised how many of our kids had never skated

before. Times sure have changed. I'm definitely going to

take Colin to public skate and teach him now when he's

young /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
