After four years of fighting with the school district about my son's advanced abilities, they FINALLY listened.

New principle last year observed him, had a meeting with us at the end of the year.

This year his schedule includes:

Honours Chemistry

Advanced Algebra

Band (4th year playing Tuba)

He's a brilliant kid, bored to tears with the mundane. He's excited about school this year. :: breathes a sigh of relief :

If it's none of my business just say so, but what was their reasoning for not allowing him to participate in the advanced classes. I had a similar situation concerning math while in high school but didn't win the battle. It would appear no one was listening. My grades were always really good never understood. They told me I didn't have the apptitude. Meanwhile I was bringing home 7 A's and 1 B every semester (and the B wasn't even in Math or Science). My parents were older and in ill health at the time and the constant fighting wore on them a bit. I couldn't justify endangering their health and just made do w/being really bored at school.

We have this state mandated test called "WASL".. he failed the WASL by 5 points (2 questions). They base everything on the WASL, which is a farking joke.

How old is he? Because seriously, I couldn't do advanced algebra without crying. And I'm so not joking on that one.

That which is unchallenged and exercised as habit rapidly becomes ritual.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.

He's 13. He's in 8th grade. He's been doing upper high school math since 4th grade. He's been reading at a college level since 3rd grade.

He started reading at 3 yrs old, and wrote his name the first time at 3 years old.

Side note: I raised him on no television. It was reading, singing, arts, painting, and actual "imaginary" play times. He started walking before crawling.

Wow, you must be very proud. Congatulations on raising a smart kid, in today's world, not an easy thing to do.
