Anyone else here like to collect or shoot guns? I've just recently (at least the LAST couple of years) gotten into shooting. I really enjoy it and gives me something to do at times.

So what do you have?

And what's your favorite?

No gun at the moment but am leaning towards a .38 chief's special when in the market!

They scare me too much….along with lawn mowers and chainsaws, table saws, band saws….anything 'saws' I guess.

Eh, I got nothin'

Never shot one but I pulled one off a patient one time. Kinda scary. The market is easing up a little bit. Ammo is hard to find, mainly the popular calibers.

My wife is the same way. But I had taught her how to shot some so she could protect herself and the kids if something happens while I'm away.

I think everyone is better off if I don't have any kind of power tool/lethal weapon in my hand…I'm such a klutz!

I don't like guns, but used to go hunting with my Father. Then I could not shoot the deer.

I take spiders and bugs back outside. I think the only thing I kill are flys.

We have Dobermans and alarm system. The Dobs do a great job protecting.

We have had people on our property late a night, even the State Police said a good watch dog is the best thing.

Power tools, that's another story. I love them. My husbands, drills, saws, table saws etc. I use them.

I picked out my Jonh Deere Tractor Mower, edger, powerwasher, blower, and wet/dry vac.

We argued in the store about the tractor and I won.

Mu ha ha. I love them all, and use them. They are mine! I changed the oil and filter., and put new plugs in my tractor yesterday.

Learned a long time, I'm in charge of home maintainence, no matter what type.

Gee, I feel like an episode of, Tool Time. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

My only personal piece is a Colt .22LR Diamondback…I know that it is what wade calls a chick gun but I like to shoot it. I have practiced with his Springfield 1911 .45 ACP. It is a hoot and I am actually more accurate with it! We have various and sundry revolvers and there is a Mossberg .12 gauge hanging in a rack in my bedroom for my protection…Like I wouldn't hurt myself more than any intruder! Yes we are a part of the so-called Gun Culture. Ryan, pm me and I will give you the full rundown!

My father was a cop from 1949-1967 and manage to accumulate quite a few weapons over the years. He preferred .38s to .45s. He'd mentioned he'd been in several heated situations w/partners who's automatics jammed and that was all he needed to see. He got my Mom a derringer and a .22 during the 50s because the Mob were doing home invasion intidmidation tactics against cops families and he thought it best that she be protected when he wasn't around. After he died and she did a thorough investigation of the house she found 4 .38s. She kept one and gave the rest to my Uncle to dispose of properly (my dad's brother also happens to be a cop). No further mention of the .22 or deringer…not sure their status.

There is a very large diversity in the opinion of guns among the rural population, the urban, and the suburban. And lately what is termed the ex-urban. Some see them as a tool, others a weapon, and still others are frightened of them. To the latter I simply advise to stay away, lest you take a good gun safety course. For myself, I have hunted in the past and once had a collection. Children come and one has to reconsider. I keep a Glock 23, caliber .40 for personal protection, but I know implicitly how to use it given the constructs of local law.

I am a Constitutionalist, and agree that the rights of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed, but wish the people know what they are bearing.

I agree. I mention the protection part since where I live it's considered the county. Meaning if we need the police we get the county sheriff's department. They are great people, I work with them all the time but since there are so few of them we can expect a 30 minute response time at times, especially at night. And there is always reports of home invasions in the news, a lot of them in my county so I'm worried about my family when I'm at work.

Former military, and retired copper, so guns have a big place in my life. Can't say I collect, but I have several – a variety – and I shoot regularly. Most of my shooting is combat tactical, but I recently bought a matched pair of Vaquero .45s for Cowboy Action Shooting.

Years ago, while in Alaska, I was on a shooting trip with some friends. I was carrying a Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum, single action, 7.5" barrel, in a cowboy style holster. As we walked out of the wooded area and into a gravel pit, one of my friends said, "I see a target." He was looking at an old, shot up station wagon about 70 feet away. In the bright sun, I could see the chrome horn ring shining. I quick-drew my .44 mag, and fired from the hip. Dead bang! The horn rim exploded. Total luck, of course.

I casually raised up the gun, blew the smoke out of the barrel, holstered, and walked off as if I had meant to do that. The guys were speechless. I'll bet they still talk about that to this day.

Because of where I live and work, I'm a knife wielder….it's an old timer beast with a 3¼ inch steel partially serrated lock back (closed 5") w/non slip grip, it's sort of legal as it's smaller length & width then my palm. Of course I'm screwed if firearms are involved but I feel better having it around! I normally use it to cut limes for my beer, lol!

I like to shoot, although these days it's mostly my bow and a bb pistol I keep around for running off wildlife. Just doesn't seem safe to have an actual firearm around the house with kids who can't resist messing with things.

I fart, therefore I art.

I shot a gun once. Some kind of a rifle or shotgun or something – one of those long thingies. It kicked back so hard it about dislocated my shoulder. Consider my curiosity sated.

I have a decent collection of swords as well. My favorite is an Italian Officer Ceremonial sword that my grandfather brought back from Italy after WWII. I still have the official paperwork clearing him to bring into the US.

That's cool Crouty! A friend of mine and I were interested in learning to fence a few years ago. We couldn't find anyone in the area that gave lessons. I was interested because of the spectacular balance it requires and the workout it provides.

And as far as kids and guns. Wade's kids grew up with guns in the house and learned to respect them as soon as they were old enough to say the word "gun". His 17 year-old has her own weapons. Its all in the education…IMO
