Case in point. I was totally Jonesing for a diet Dr. Pepper, and Jim had some in the refrigerator. I had one can. ONE. For two nights, I was awake most of the night with deep hip pain. I really need to keep away from that stuff completely. Obviously.

That stinks, you should make him put them in the garage or something so you're not tempted. Do you have a similar reaction to Splenda? Diet Hansen's "natural" soda has that in it as does a special Diet Coke, gotta look for it though.

Similar with splenda tho not as pronounced. I use stevia – there are sodas (Zevia, Virgil's) that use Stevia as sweetener and I do fine with those.

I'm convinced that Mountain Dew contributed to my diabetes situation, but I miss the caffeine burn…i wonder how the retro dew tastes?

I've heard of Virgil's…do they make a cream soda?

Cream soda and root beer. They have regular and diet – and the diet uses stevia and one of the sugar alcohols that doesn't affect blood sugar. Pretty much the same stuff that is in the sweetener Truvia.

I picked some up yesterday…the diet root beer, not bad but it's $7.99 a 4 pack….soooo I'm not sure how often I'll be buying it. thanks for the heads up….Raley's may have it cheaper or whole foods or something.

I hope this doesn't send you into a sugar relapse, but The Big Wolf LOVES the retro Mtn. Dew with REAL Sugar!

I'm drinking Coke now, not Diet. What is interesting is that I used to drink Diet Coke ALL day long. My main thought after work was: "do I have enough Diet Coke to last until I go to work tomorrow?"

I went through AT LEAST 2 2-liter bottles a day.

Now I take a cup of water to bed in case I wake up thirsty (because regular Coke goes flat overnight when Diet didn't. I have my coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 no sugar and am getting used to it.

Occasionally I falter (or just revert to old habit) and pick up a Diet Coke and I shudder when I taste it.

I have almost completely kicked it. And it is TOUGH!

It is always best to "go the natural route." God put all of this food here for a reason! And, for those of you who do not even believe in a God, then Mother Nature has all of this natural food product on earth for a reason, and that is because our bodies metabolizes it "naturally." Anytime man tampers with Mother Nature's food supply, then man will always lose. Anytime you see things like "decaf, " or "no-fat," or "light-lite," or "reduced calorie," or such like, "BEWARE," because then that means man has had his sticky little fingers in the product putting something there which will probably be harmful to your health. GO NATURAL, just eat it in "moderation," for that is better than eating or drinking the "artificial substances" which man in all of his infinite wisdom has created for our destruction.

In some cases, some people who were drinking large amounts of diet-cola's(especially Diet-Coke) had "bleeding on the brain." Great soft-drink, huh? You're a wise man, Sithy for throwing your Diet-Coke away! I hardly drink a soft-drink anymore, but when I do(as a rare treat), then I drink either a regular Coca-Cola Classic, or a regular Mountain Dew, or one of these three lemon-lime soda's, Sierra Mist, 7-UP or Sprite. That is if or when I drink a soda.

I don't drink "Decaf," I drink coffee. I don't drink "Diet," I drink Coke. I don't eat "No-Fat," I eat food. And, I don't drink "Light/Lite," I drink beer! GO NATURAL!!!!!!
