Just as a bit of randomness….how many of you are Metal Heads or even closet Metal Heads? I'm not talking about the hair bands from the 80's like Poison, Motley Crue, or Def Leppard. They are all great bands, but I'm talking about something heavier. For example: Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron Maiden…just to name a few. A notable band I love to listen to is from Dublin, Ireland called Primordial.

I have very eclectic tastes that include metal, jazz, country, blues, latin, techno, punk, classic rock….I listen to a little bit of everything. As far as "metal" goes (and I'm not going to break it down into all the little sub branches) I like Tool (and there are quite a few Tool fans here), Rob Zombie, Classic Black Sabbath (w/Ozzy), Ozzy, Ministry, Danzig, Metallica, Megadeth, Motorhead, Pantera, Lines and Noses (aka Guns n Roses), Fastaway, Led Zeppelin (of course) Deep Purple, Rainbow, Van Halen (not too crazy about Van Hagar but it'll do in a pinch and I just detest this latest abomination they're trotting out there), Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Judas Priest etc. The "hair band" stuff is okay, but compared to other stuff I really like that used to get me psyched up for sports…meh not so awesome. Like I used to really like Def Leppard but when Pyromania just went through the roof, I got tired of that. I don't know where artists like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani fall, it's a little too hard for standard rock, but a little too out there for standard metal I guess….(shrugs)

There's other stuff out there that's decent that's "heavy" but not sure if it's classified "metal" like Wolfmother and Seether. I guess we can thank the "alternative" folks for blurring the lines there. Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Foo Fighters etc….

Though not a huge Nirvana fan I remember hearing that "sounds like teen spirit" and this huge crap eating grin spreading on my face because it was like a safe being dropped on a creme filled donut which was the hair metal scene that had sort of taken over. I for one was glad to see it go….but I digress.

Welcome to PUG btw…I noticed you originally hail from South Jersey, me too!

I used to be to be a HUGE metal head back in the day and I still listen to the old stuff a lot . The look on my nieces' faces when they catch me dancing around to Rob Zombie is priceless!!! They have even asked me to turn my music down sometimes, but I'm trying to convert them. Kids today! /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I can't stand a lot of the stuff they listen to either, so it evens out.

IMO, songs just don't get any better than "Dragula". I would get up out of my coffin to dance to that song. /wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Yep, the Monkey is correct. I L-O-V-E anything Zombie! Love Slipknot. Murderdolls. Like some Seether.

Don't know if My Chemical Romance is in the real Metal category, but a friend just turned me on to them.

Love Maiden, Man-O-War, Priest.

I can go on for days…and Chris, I am anal enough to alphabetize my albums.

My collection goes from Bryan Adams to Rob Zombie. Crazy enough for ya?

KK – my favorite White Zombie head banging song is "More Human than Human".

I like a lot of the bands mentioned already. It's hard to define what band is metal, rock or alternative these days. I love Rob Zombie, used to have a lot of his albums on cassette tape. Does that make me sound old? It does to me.

What are cassette tapes???

J/K. The first music I ever owned was on 8 track cartridges. Remember those? I'll never forget them either: Rod Stewart and Styx. I listened to Grand Illusion so much that I actually wore the thing out. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I haven't heard of some of these new Metal groups that you have mentioned, but I remember all of the older ones. I've even been to a lot of their concerts. God, I'm old! /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

EDIT: What category does ACDC fall under? I absolutely love that band and just about every song they ever did. "You Shook Me All Night Long" is one of the best rock songs EVER, IMHO.

Does anyone remember the name of their lead singer, the one who wore the leather kilt on stage? Angus something, maybe?

Very cool…I guess if I was to expand on the topic, yes I'm more of a eclectic music person also. Thumbs up on Norcalmonkey's mention of Vai & Satriani. I have a large collection of cassette tapes..yes KuriusKat….tapes (he he) Featuring guitarists. Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert, Steve Morse, Gary Moore (RIP), Vinnie Moore, Alan Holdsworth, Al Dimeola, (sp) and many others.

I'll say this about my collection of music. It covers everything from Bread to Stanley Clark, and Pearl Jam to Rush.

ACDC is one of my all time favorites too KK……Angus is the lead guitarist first name…….brothers Angus and Malcolm Young formed the group…….the original lead singers name was Dave Evans….who was replaced by the more famous Bon Scott.

Hope that helps… /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

As you can see by my avatar, I am more of a chicken head. That being said, I listened to all of those bands, and even attended a Slayer concert back in the day. I have rather broad tastes in music.

AC/DC has had 3 singers. I don't know from Dave Evans, but the two better known ones being Bon Scott who was there almost from the beginning up until the sessions for "Back In Black" began. He died ala Hendrix and John Bonham by choking on vomit while sleeping. In his case, like Bonzo's it was after a long bout of drinking. Back in Black was dedicated to him, of course and then Brian Johnson was brought in and has been there ever since. Bon Scott would wear kilts on stage (as they're Scottish-Australians) among other things…he's notorious for also appearing in drag on stage from time to time, even doing so on national tv down under. While I enjoy the Brain Johnson stuff which is the material that sold the most, I have to admit I prefer Bon Scott. Angus Young is the lead guitarist who dresses like a schoolboy. AC/DC is DEFINITELY heavy metal. They ain't nicknamed "the thunder from down under" for nothing. As far as leather kilts go, I think recently Axl Rose, Scott Weiland and some others have been wearing that and I'm sorry if it ain't plaid, it's a skirt…sorry!

I don't know, Jesse James Dupree rocks out pretty decently…nothing to be ashamed of as far as I can tell…

Oh and please don't even kid like that, cuz god help us all if it appears on dancing w/the stars….great googly moogly. One of my favorite White Zombie/Rob Zombie moments had to be coming into a final approach on LAX airport at night flipping awesome with More Human then Human pulsing in my ears….not as intense as peaking on 2 hits of acid during Peter Gabriel's red rain opening cresendo, but pretty danged close for a natural buzz…..whoops is this thing plugged in…tap tap tap….yikes!

I grew up in Redneck Central and metal heads were everywhere and still are. You'll be fine. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> I love "Living Dead Girl"! Turn it up for me, please.

BTW, I love bubbas, too. They are almost always nice men. They'll help you out if you're in a jam and they are polite and respectful to women. They love their mamas, they open doors, they say "ma'am", and there is no way in hell any self-respecting bubba would stand by and watch a woman be beaten like Chrissy Polis was, even if she was a trans gender woman. They also wouldn't let a man be beaten like that. One on one fights are fine, but multiple assailants "just ain't fair". Most bubbas are willing to take an arse kicking to do the right thing. City slickers could learn a lot from bubbas, IMHO. So there. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Of course, Bubbas could also learn some things from city men. For example, they don't tend to know a lot about wine. Or opera. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Thanks for all the info about ACDC. I'd forgotten all of their names. I only remembered the kilts because I'd never seen one before.

Personally, I think leather kilts are fine. They make kilts out of all kinds of fabrics in Scotland. Plain black ones are popular for weddings and formal wear. I once even saw a 3-piece pinstripe suit made with a kilt instead of pants. I thought that was great. I do love a man in a kilt. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I love all kinds of music, too. My ipod has everything from bluegrass to metal on it. No jazz, tough. All jazz sounds like a Ramada Inn lounge band to me. If a stranger found my ipod they would probably think the owner had multiple personalities. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

First off, I think I'm seeing a strong connection between interest in the paranormal and metal. Clearly we're all going the hell lol.

And now it's my turn. Hello, my name is Jill and I'm a closet metal head. I think it's my background in classical- to me no modern music matched Wagner better than some well done metal.

So, some of my favs- (old)Tool, Old Man Gloom, Isis, In Flames, Helmet, Only Living Witness, Blind Guardian, Black Sabbath, Cave In, Iron Maiden…

Of course I also love Deep Purple, Clutch, Sebadoh, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buffalo Tom, Sade, Pearl Jam, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass…

And my all time favorite of all favorite bands- Faith No More.

And my most listened to as of late- Imagination Movers. My 3 year olds FAVORITE. And I must admit- they're not too shabby.

I have to say that for some reason I can not stand Rush. It's the singer's voice that annoys me. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to my ears.

Holy cow, me too, Ryan! We could definitely share ipods. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I feel exactly the same way about Journey. Hearing them just makes me grit my teeth. REO Speedwagon is a little like that, too but I like a few of their songs well enough to put up with it.

Sorry, Jill. I love Stevie Ray Vaughn, though, if that helps. Tom Petty is my all-time favorite, though. And Mary Chapin Carpenter.

We've gotten away from the Metal thing, haven't we? /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ryan – I am the same way. Geddy Lee is way too screechy. I would like their music without him singing I think. The guy is a helluva a bassist, but if he is the best they could do as a lead singer, they should have tried to find another. Jim loves Rush, but has to listen to it when I am not around because I actually have a reaction to Lee's voice. It's a shame because musically, the stuff they do with their songs is pretty complex and amazing.

I grew up listening to my dad playing Herb Alpert on the ole' phonograph.

Me too. I remember my folks' Herb Alpert Whipped Cream album. But they also had Abbey Road, so they weren't total squares. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

My taste is very eclectic and runs from classical and jazz to heavy metal/punk. I have a few genres I am not a fan of, but even in those I can often find a song or two I like. I am also a musician, and so I often appreciate the spirit of what a group is trying to accomplish.

My iPod is definitely an odd mix of music. I think if anyone ever stole it, they would think I was strange. My favorite band of all time, however, is Pink Floyd. But that's just me. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
