OfflineHere's a link to the article that I was reading about the Hurt Locker.

OfflineShe was James Camerons ex? Kinda a win win for her huh? Now that is funny!
I wonder how much money she has alimonyed off of Avatar?

Not sure if she gets any as I'm not sure if she was his wife during Avatar, possibly Titanic money or was he still married to Linda Hamilton? Who can keep up, he's almost getting into Larry King category w/out the cuckolding.

OfflineI hadn't watched the Academy awards show for quite some time. But I made an effort this year.
The lipstick on Sandra Bullock was horrendous. But her hair was flawless. I am glad she won. On one of the entertainment shows they had Jeff Bridges as worst dressed male. I didn't agree. Especially since Robert Downey Jr. wore a teal green tie and sneekers.
I have seen both Hurt Locker and Avatar. Hurt Locker was awful. Like watching cspan. Boring graphic and vulgar are the three words that come to mind.
Avatar was like watching moving art. I, at first, had no intentions of seeing the movie. Didn't think it was my cup of tea either. But was knocked off my seat. It deserved to win. But we all know how much the academy hates scifi movies. Star Trek was way better than the majority of the 10 up for film of the year. Yet only had 2 nominations. It is harder for an actor to work off a blue screan, than to work off another person in a viable scene. The only scifi film to really get the "honors" was LOTRs (and out of 3 movies, only one was truely recognized by the academy)
I got the feeling that the academy just couldn't resist the irony that James Cameron's ex-wife was his competition. He may not be very popular, but that man is a heck of a film maker. And he may not have an Oscar, but I am sure he is laughing all the way to the bank, which at the end of the day, that it what really matters.
Miley Cyrus looked and acted like she stepped out of a 1986 trailer. You would think that after being in the spot light for several years, she would learn to shake off those bad habits of hers. She has a great voice, but is it too late to send her to charm school?
I liked Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. Though, I felt like they were being held back. I would have liked to see them let loose.
All in all, it had some good moments. Some of the dresses and make-up and hair was like "what the heck were they thinking". But I also saw some fabulous dresses…like Jlo and Penelope Cruz, Sandra Bullock and surprisingly Cameron Diaz.
OfflineAfter having watched The Hurt Locker last night, I think Avatar should have taken the top prize.
While I thought The Hurt Locker was well done and compelling, there were too many times I uttered, "That's just not believable," like when the three members went off alone to look for the bomber. There were too many moments that just didn't ring true. I understand that it had to be entertaining.
Avatar, on the other hand, was groundbreaking film making. I think that Cameron's rep might have got in the way a bit.

If it makes you feel any better, Alfred Hitchcock NEVER won an oscar in his lifetime (he won 2 posthumously for lifetime achievement and something else that I forgot but neither for director…i'll have to dig to see how his films themselves did) and Orson Welles only won one for best original screenplay (for Citizen Kane). People are still studying Hitchcock in film school. Orson Welles was also very innovative in his introduction of camera perspective and angle aiding in the story telling.

Maybe the game changers don't get the respect they deserve in the moment – but only in retrospect. After all, people in general fear change.
