A Unique Problem

Heyyyyyyyy guys…..

So I have a rather unique problem that has come up. I went in to apply for my Concealed Pistol License (mostly so I can carry my gun in my car – loaded) at the local police department. They had to take fingerprints. I got a call back yesterday. I have to go back in and be reprinted because my fingerprints didn't take.

So here's the problem. I have virtually NO fingerprints. We have a biometric safe at home, and I can't use the biometric part because of my lack of fingerprints. I am going back in to be reprinted today to see if they can get readable prints for my CPL. Is there something I can do to make my finger prints read better? Will I just not get a CPL and lose my application fee because I have no fingerprints? And I won't even get into the biometric safe – that is just not going to work for me, so I'll always have to use the code.

Oh sure, I know you criminal types that hang around here will tell me that having unreadable finger prints is a totally awesome thing. But now I figure that for every crime scene ever, when they get indistinct fingerprints, they're gonna come after yours truly because clearly if the fingerprints are indistinct, it's me!!!

I wonder if the police station will take a butt print for my CPL instead….I'm pretty sure THAT's distinctive.

Or maybe the wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes. Those are definitely deep and unique! Hmm…if only I had undetectable DNA, too, I could see all sorts of possibilities opening up.

You see Karen? This is what happens after you gave up your life of crime and quit sanding down your fingerprints. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Maybe you are too well hydrated. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> Less water=readable fingerprints?

Eh, I got nothin'

I have no suggestions for you. When I did my CHL, I didn't have an issue but others did. The instructor recommended going down to a place that I think did drug testings, background checks and the sort that they used an electronic fingerprint taker machine instead of using the ink pad.

Worse comes to worse, call the police department (not 911) and ask if there is something you can do before going down there to see if the prints come out better.

You know when I applied for one it wasn't my lack of fingerprints that stood in my way, it was no moral compass, lack of compassion and mean streak that prevented me from obtaining the conceal/carry license. I've since had some painful injections and a character transfusion so I should be getting green lighted any day now! YEAH!

just kidding, guns make me nervous

Butt print? Are you serious….I hate to be the technician in charge of doing that….hahahaha

Does the police department have the scanner or ink technique to gather prints? I would assume the scanner should have a setting to read your prints. I also would imagine that this is not an isolated problem either for the police.

congrats on applying for your permit….does your state require a mandatory class to obtain one? I had to go through a 2 week class, three nights a week to obtain mine. We had to do the class, get 5 personal references from people who live in your county, take an ad out in the paper, then the judge has to sign off on your permit after you done all that….

Go to the state agency for investigations, here in Oklahoma it is the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations. Explain the situation and have one of their fingerprint techs fingerprint you. Usually they are happy to do it, and you don't have to have local pd send them the results, so it is quicker as you are already there.

Y'all have good ideas. I went and we re-fingerprinted today – but it turns out that it is likely I will have to go up to the WSP crime lab and have them do that scan thingy.

Gene – no classes required here. I probably won't ever do concealed carry, but it's nice to have the option. I look kind of bad a$$ with a gun hanging off of my belt…

No, only if you soil the glass top, but they DO make you use one of those flimsy toilet seat covers to keep things nice and hygienic for the next person to use the copier

My wife has a temporary government job (the job is temporary, not the gov.) and everyone has to be finger printed, amongst other things. Quite a few people have problems with no finger prints, it took about 5 tries for her boss. I have bad news for you, the number one reason for lack of good finger prints is age, it seems as we age our finger tips wear down and the little ridges just don't come back like they do for young'ns.

I recommend that you don't go out and get yourself one of those pistols with a smart trigger. The safety mechanism reads the finger print, that way the gun can't be used against you or by innocent kids.

Ironically we have different problems. The ink shows up on me (mostly) but that scanner cant see my fingerprints if it would save my life (maybe we should switch lol). Maybe the scanner will work for you. Or maybe you could get a new "for hire" job. Hey your income would increase Im sure /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..
