Most of my academic time was spent in the Catholic school system and they really spent alot of time teaching about the inequities of life in other parts of the world. If it wasn't the class/caste system in India or the male dominated cultures in the Asian and Muslim world it was the corruption of the royal houses in Russia, Habsburgs etc. (I guess it's easier to identify the problems elsewhere when you choose to ignore the illegalities and peversity happening under your own roof). As such, I've been aware of the brutal/barbaric treatment of women in Iran for sometime and it's horrifying. I'd seen a series of photos on the web of a crowded soccer stadium where they trotted out a bunch of women to be publically executed for breaking sharia law or whatever...how progressive of them (thinly veiled sarcasm), by all means give these loons nuclear power. I had nightmares for a month. I'm sure the film is a must see movie but right now I'll take your word for it and opt for a pass.

We watched an incredible movie called "The Stoning of Soraya M." What an intense film about the rights of women in Iran. I highly recommend the movie if you're into foreign films. It was powerful, to say the least. I was angry at the injustice, I cried throughout the movie. The characters did a **** fine job of making you feel emotion towards them.

	Synopsis:

	http://www.thestoning.com/

Thus begins the remarkable account of what happened to Soraya (Mozhan Marnò), a kind, spirited woman whose bad marriage leads her cruel, divorce-seeking husband to conspire against her, trumping up charges of infidelity, which carry an unimaginable penalty. Moving through a minefield of scheming, lies and deceit, Soraya and Zahra will attempt to prove Soraya’s innocence in a legal system stacked against her. But when all else fails, Zahra will risk everything to use the only weapon she has left – her fearless, passionate voice that can share Soraya’s story with a shocked world.
