You know since moving to the SF Bay Area and considering the "diverse" demographics of the area, there are plenty of movie houses that play films like this, but as I'm not too sharp of which are dangerous neighborhoods, I've just stopped going to see the foreign films.

Most of my academic time was spent in the Catholic school system and they really spent alot of time teaching about the inequities of life in other parts of the world. If it wasn't the class/caste system in India or the male dominated cultures in the Asian and Muslim world it was the corruption of the royal houses in Russia, Habsburgs etc. (I guess it's easier to identify the problems elsewhere when you choose to ignore the illegalities and peversity happening under your own roof). As such, I've been aware of the brutal/barbaric treatment of women in Iran for sometime and it's horrifying. I'd seen a series of photos on the web of a crowded soccer stadium where they trotted out a bunch of women to be publically executed for breaking sharia law or whatever…how progressive of them (thinly veiled sarcasm), by all means give these loons nuclear power. I had nightmares for a month. I'm sure the film is a must see movie but right now I'll take your word for it and opt for a pass.

Living in the Seattle area, we too have a diverse population. I can understand what you're saying about not going because of dangerous neighborhoods. We are fortunate enough to have a great theater that does a lot of independent films; The Harvard Exit.

We watched the movie at home, in the privacy of our own home. I love the stark openness of foreign films. American films are very limited in what they show and portray. A lot of American films are missing the edge.

I think it's the dumbing down of our culture and the ultra pc sanitization of the media…NOT a good combination
