And I would really hope you don't have to disclose ghosts, or this house will never sell. They don't live here, but they come visit a lot. Kinda like the mice. They don't live here, but we live in the woods and the small varmints drop by from time to time. Mice, raccoons, bunnies, possum....if we have to add ghosts, too, that's going to be one crowded pest report.

Latest info...

Even the address is different today. Previous owners James and Barbara Cromarty, who own the Riverhead Raceway, said they had it changed from 112 Ocean Ave. to protect their privacy.

James Cromarty, 77, bought the house in 1977. By that point, a bank had foreclosed on the house from the Lutzes, who have since died. DeFeo is at the upstate Green Haven ... Correctional Facility, serving 25 years to life for the murders.

"Nothing weird ever happened, except for people coming by because of the book and the movie," said Cromarty, who lived a decade in the house.

He and his wife, Barbara, sold the house in 1987 to Peter and Jeanne O'Neill. Jeanne O'Neill said, "I loved it. It was a beautiful home." They sold the house in 1997 for $310,000 to the current owner, which records identify as Brian Wilson.

"It's one of the more beautifully redone houses in the neighborhood," said listing agent Laura Zambratto of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.

Jerry O'Neill of Coldwell Banker Harbor Light, who has been selling Amityville real estate for 38 years and whose brother, Peter, used to own the house, said he thinks the price is fair. "It's a gorgeous, big center hall Colonial with a finished basement," said O'Neill, with "nothing spooky about it." Neighbors said that there are occasional gawkers, mostly on Halloween.

It's not the only notorious Long Island house on the market. Recently, the East Meadow expanded ranch where serial killer Joel Rifkin used to live, sometimes bringing victims back to the house, was listed for $424,500.

True. Honestly they've done so much to it I had to look twice to realize. If the people dont realize then they will be in for a shock. If they do they should keep their number unlisted lol.

Iv heard about the people trespassing. Id get a dog and have the police on speed dial. A few bites and trips to jail should deter most people.

Its actually a pretty nice house in a nice area. Doesnt look like they are trying to boost profits by the "haunting". But I too thought they had to disclose all the history of the house and nothing is mentioned. Thats how it is here, maybe not in New York. Im interested to see who buys it and if they know anything about the house or just stumble on it. And come on haunted or not the murders alone will give that house a name. So what could an investigation hurt to settle it once the old owners move out if no one has moved in yet? Didnt something come out a while ago though about how the haunting admittedly wasnt real?

We actually have a realtor on our team. They are looking into the sale of the house for us. No, I can't afford it. It's pure curiosity.

There is no law that we can find that says you have to volunteer information on a haunting since there is no actual proof that hauntings are real. However, if you specifically ask about anything related to a potential purchase of a property the realtor must be truthful in their answers. Unlike if something is physically wrong with the house that has to be revealed up front.

Besides, a person probably would have had to be living under a rock not to have heard at least some of the stories. lol

As far as the stories being true... Over the years there have been several people that have come forth that have admitted it was all fabricated to make a buck. Then too there are just as many that say the haunting was true. No one knows for sure. They did ghost hunting back then with no results. Hans Holzer even said the house was ok but that he thought it was the area. Keep in mind everyone who investigated the house was of some celebrity status and had personal motives for looking into the stories. Great exposure.

The only definite thing I can see is that in the almost 40 years since the original story nothing else has happened. This really doesn’t matter I guess when you look at the property in a commercial sense. All the stories, books and movies still make it an interesting place for the paranormal enthusiast.
