OfflineWelcome to our little corner of Potterverse…Pynki is sort of the headmistress over here! I'm sure you'll run into her at some point. I don't know what to tell you about appropriate subject matter for a 7 year old not being a parent myself. Always felt part of the genius of the books was her ability to "mature" her writing style and subject matter to mesh w/the ages of the kids in the books AND the reading audience as well.
Headmistress??? I'll take it.
My cousin Jonathan's 7 and we just recently finshed book 4. He even got a little teary eyed twards the end, But then it could have been because he was reacting off of me. I always cry when Harry's mother comes out of Voldemot's wand and When Mrs. Weasley hugs Harry in the hospital wing. He got the whole dateing and relationship thing, it was Cedric's death that he had trouble with. He just couldn't wrap his mind around why they killed him. "But he didn't do anything. He was just there.(for some reason he didn't register Cedric as dead in the movie IDK) and I think he's a little young for the whole "Shite happens kid" lesson. So I think Book 5 is going to have to wait a few years. THAT book I feel is too much for kids but four I would say is ok.
The thing I just love is that he has seen all the movies (except for the last one, I think they took the locket thing WAY too far and I won't allow Jonathan to watch it. I'm in my 20s and it made me uncomfortable.) but when we read the books he goes in to the whole "why didn't they explain it like that in the movie. I think like the book better." Harry Potter has sparked an interest in reading in him that nothing else has done before. It's something we have in common. Being dyslexic I always hated reading and never did it. Not even for school (god bless pinkmonkey.com) and spent my free time in front of my TV and in movie theaters. Then I meet Harry Ron and Hermione on night and found myself picking the next book, to read for fun because i just couldnt wait to learn what happens next Then getting the first one because I had no idea who Peeves was. I can't begin to explain how shocked my family was to see me curled up in an arm chair reading. They all laughed untill they saw me acttully finish the books then ask for then next one. And now X many years later I only turn on my TV once a week to watch Glee then go back to whatever it was I was reading, and it all started because of an 11 year old boy who didn't know he was a wizard. And now it's happing all over again with Jonathan. It was a good day when I walked passed his room to see is video game controller on the floor and him lying on his bed with my Harry Potter book.
Another genius of the books is that at different stages of your life the books take on a whole new meaning. As a teenager I knew the story was sad and I could appreciate it. But then Jonathan was born. Even though i didn't give birth to him I'm like his mother in ever other sense of the word. So when I re-read the books to prepare myself for the release of the new one Lily's sacrifice took on a whole new meaning and went from sad to tragically, heart heartbreakingly beautiful and I could see her love for Harry every where. And I went from loving to Mrs. Weasley to her be coming my Hero. Till that point I always saw her as a really nice lady who took Harry in, but after Jonathan I understood that you don't have to give birth to someone to love them as if they where your own and I started to see that Mrs. Weasley wasn't inviting Harry over to be nice, he was like her son so why shouldn't he be at home with the rest of the family.
I'm going to shut up now. I could go on and on and on about Harry Potter.

Very true. For one week every month it's best you stay away from me because I could very well kill you.
You wouldn't survive Sithy. I go around biting peoples heads off not just simply biting.

OfflineHey, I'm a Hufflepuff, too, so that makes at least three of us. If we can round up a few more, we can form our own Quidditch team.
I read the first Harry Potter book because I bought it for my nephew and wanted to be sure that it was okay for an 8 year old and I was hooked. He was too – he never liked reading before those books but he tore through them at lightning speed. His teacher was amazed at how his reading skills improved although she didn't think much of my giving an 8 year old a book about witches and wizards. I figured it's every kid's dream to have magical skills so what could it hurt? Heck, who am I kidding? I'd love to have magical powers myself!
BTW, Pynki, your one week of homicidal tendencies made me think of one of the "superhero" tryouts in the movie Mystery Men – The PMS Avenger. Her question: "I only work 5 days a month… You got a problem with that?" The men's response: "0h no, no". /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
OfflineThe Sorting Hat says Hufflepuff (loyal, hardworking and dependable). Yup, that's me!
Hufflepuff – 16
Ravenclaw – 12
Gryffindor – 11
Slytherin – 6
I just watched The Half Blood Prince, I am so confused about Snape

The Snape thing will work itself out, trust me.
Did you see D H part 1? That will help, just a tiny. But, part two this year will clear everything up.
Really not too far away. /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Snape was a blow. I remember reading the 6th book and felling gutted. Although I thought Snape was an arse hole I always believed he was one of the good guys. Then he goes and kills Dumbledore. It was a slap in the face to everyone who defended him. (me included) there was really nothing I could say to all the "I told you so's"
As much as I disliked the movie I have to give it to Tom Felton. While reading the book I never felt bad for Draco. Not once. But those two scenes with him in the bathroom and on top of the astronomy tower just broke my heart and I just wanted to hug him. I never thought much of Tom Felton acting so I was completely WOWed by it the HBP. Kind of like Emma Watson I don't think she's a good actress, honestly I think she's gotten worse as the movies have gone on, but she showed some promise in the last one. There were a fewer scenes of hers that I didn't roll my eyes at her acting. But then as my friend said, "She acting next to Rupert Grint." Which is true. When he's in full on acting mode he does tend to make the other two look like amateurs.
Best part of Deathly Hallows.

Rupert Grint is an amazing actor ever since he was a little kid. I too felt sympathy for Draco because deep down he has a conscience and his training up has caused discomfort for him personally. In the early days, he was just a spoiled, little, self important brat but as he got older you could see this conflict develop. I keep wanting Snape to be a good guy but I don't quite remember his role in The Deathly Hollows, part I. Did he redeem himself or is he still allied with the dark side? I really enjoyed the 6th movie, it covered so much territory from the twins running their shop to Dumbledore's demise. Whoah, I can't wait for the summer blockbuster!!!! By the way, why don't they involve Hufflepuff in any storylines? It's always Gryffindor and Slytherin, surely other wizards like us have something to contribute!!!!! /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

Since most of the major characters belong to those two houses I'd say it's no coincidence. Ravenclaw doesn't really get too much hoopla either, but it is depicted as a "strong" house (Cedric Diggory, Luna Lovegood, Terry Boot are all from Ravenclaw). The only Hufflepuffs I can think of besides the founder (Helga Hufflepuff) and Professor Sprout is that Ernie Macmillian and Justin Finch-whatever. Obviousily it was the magic of all 4 founders that created the incredible magic that enabled Hogwarts to exist. I get the impression that each school has certain traits that their members emulate seperately they CAN be very powerful, but when united for a cause is when the serious mojo goes down.

Cho was a Ravenclaw as was her **** friend.
DUDE! Cedric Diggory was not a Ravenclaw. OK man. The REAL Hogwarts champion was a Hufflepuff. And Hufflepuff was the house who stood by Harry the most out of the other three.
Slowly the four tables emptied. The Slytherin table was completely
deserted, but a number of older Ravenclaws remained seated
while their fellows filed out;even more Hufflepuffs stayed behind,
and half of Gryffindor remained in their seats, necessitating Professor
McGonagall’s descent from the teachers’ platform to chivvy the
underage on their way.
Alot of people say that Hufflepuff students are the lest known about in the books but honestly that not quite true. Sure their name isn't as prevalent as Ravenclaw but Hufflepuff is the house other then Grifindor that we hear the most about in terms of whats going on in the war. We get three stories about the happening out side of Hogwarts that directly effect it's students. The Montgomery sisters whos 5 year old brother was killed by Grayback. We learn that Hanna Abbot's mother was murdered, and Susan's Bones aunt Amelia Bones was killed by Voldemot himself. Now It's never stated what house the Montgomery sisters were in, but both Hanna Abbot and Susan Bones were Hufflepuffs, as was Amelia Bones. And lets not forget Tonks. Tonks was a Hufflepuff yeah we fcuking ROCK!!

Oh thanks for the 411. But I'm sticking by my response that most of the MAJOR characters in the story are from either G or S and that's why the vast majority of the attention surround those houses. I'm sure Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw have delightful histories all their own.

OfflineLet's face it, the hardworking. loyal people, ie the Hufflepuffs, of this planet are not the ones the great books get written about. We are the supporting characters to the Gryffindors and Slytherins. We're the Melanie Wilkes to the Scarlette O'Haras. That's just how it is.
It's okay. We know that the world couldn't spin without our assistance. We don't need the glory anyway: We're way too busy to worry about stuff like public acclaim. Right? /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
