:Le sigh:

I didn't like it. But truth be told I'm not a huge fan of the movies so my disappointed didn't come as a big surprise. My biggest qualm with them is the way Ron's character has been treated. But Steve Kloves (the screen writer) stated early on that he didn't like Ron so i guess i was destined to not be crazy about the movies seeing as Ron Weasley is the love of my life.

After watching the movie i got in to a huge fight with my friend. She has only seen the movies and never read the books so went off on Ron for leaving, talking about how he betrayed Harry, was always a wimp and the like. BIG mistake. Yes. Ron left. Yes. he shouldn’t have. No. I don't think he was wrong or blame him for doing so. Why? Because Harry pretty much kicked him out. (in the book) I did love how the fight between Harry and Ron was done and i especially love that in the movie Ron's words were harsher then they were in the book but still think Ron went easy on him. Harry always took Ron's friendship for granted. Harry, to those who haven't read the books, is quite a self centered and arrogant person. But then I may be biased because I love Ron and Hated Harry from the moment he thought he was better then Ron. (Yes there is a part in the books where Harry is thinking about how he is better then Ron it pissed me off because for the first time Ron achieves something Harry didn't and instead of being happy for his friend he goes off and thinks He deserves it and not Ron. FU Harry this is the boy who shared every thing with you, including his home and family, has been by your side and lived in your shadow since day one and this is how you act? once again FU.) Anyway I told my friend that she should read the books before she passed any judgment on Ron because the movies portray him as Harry's wimpy sidekick when in the books Ron is the first person to get in someone's face and the last to back down. It's Ron who doesn’t let Harry back down from Malfoy, It's Ron who pushed harry aside and let the "dog" get him instead it was Ron who stood up to Sirius black, on a broken leg no less, and tell him he would have to kill him if he wanted to kill Harry. Since book one Ron has thrown him self in the path of danger to protect his friends whenever he could. The movies never show this and she felt stupid when i sat there with the books and pointed it all out to her. NO ONE insults my Ron, no one!

I found the movie to be a bit rushed and the emotions seemed wrong. Mrs. Weasley didn't seem all that upset about George, Harry at his parents grave was far to un-emotional. Ron's return… Oh boy… That was a great moment between Ron and Harry in the books. It was the when Harry realized how much Ron meant to him and was too chocked up to even finish a sentience, and they didn't have any of that in the movie. The two thing I was most looking forward to in the first part was that and Malfoy manner and they screwed that up to. They didn't have Ron begging them to take him instead of Hermione, or him hysterical and screaming her name crying. They didn't really show Draco's reluctance to give up the trio. The level of dread and fear just wasn't there, it was too calm and slow paced. Dobby's death… don't get me started on that. I found the emotional aspect to be lacking.

Yes Harry and Voldemort are distant cousins. But the thing I find more disturbing than that is Ron and Draco being second cousins.

You're silly Pynki, but that is why I like you. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I agree, Ron was way to dramatic in the movie. The director was way to prejudice vs Ron. Harry was an **** and should have been put in his place. Ron's role in the movie was way too limiting. Better?

Pynki, I love your devotion to Ron! I did not read the books but I realized early on that he was not appreciated for his loyalty and unconditional love by his friends. He is so much more lovable than HP and deserves more respect and admiration for being the kind of friend he is. Harry is much more clueless and can't see outside of his own troubles which is much more typical of most men I know (sorry guys, this is JMHO). These kinds of lopsided friendships are much more common in real life and so I think they nailed it when they portray the relationship between Ron and Harry. I would love to have a friend like Ron, wouldn't everyone?! Now in closing, (in dramatic Mary Catherine fashion) I would like to cue up the music to Bette Midler's beautiful song from the movie Beaches and have Harry sing to Ron: "you're the wind beneath my wings"… SUPERSTAR!

Thank you. I want a friend like Ron too!! I have an unhealthy love for Ron scratch that its very healthy. My feelings for Harry are odd i don't care for him much but love the fact that JKR made him flawed, he's not perfect and it make him a better character. I guess as a person i think he's an arse but is a great literary character. You really should read the books they are amazing!

I think a lot of Ron being lovable in the movies has to do with the actor who plays him. The way he was written in the movies could have come off as annoying.

Thats a perfect song for Harry to sing to Ron… JKR always said Ron is the heart of the trio and what held them together, and even Harry acknowledged that.

The sword clanged as Ron dropped it. He had sunk to his knees,

his head in his arms. He was shaking, but not, Harry realized, from

cold. Harry crammed the broken locket into his pocket, knelt down

beside Ron, and placed a hand cautiously on his shoulder. He took

it as a good sign that Ron did not throw it off.

“After you left,” he said in a low voice, grateful for the fact that

Ron’s face was hidden, “she cried for a week. Probably longer, only

she didn’t want me to see. There were loads of nights when we never

even spoke to each other. With you gone . . .”

He could not finish; it was only now that Ron was here again that

Harry fully realized how much his absence had cost them.

This is How Ron's return should have went in the movies. Rupert Grint is a very talented actor and I wanted to see him act that out. There is a part in the second movie i wont tell you what since you haven't read the Book but in an interview Emma Watson said that while filming it she had to remind herself to keep acting because she wanted to stop and tell him he was amazing. THAT i cant wait for.

I've always felt that the Weasley Family were the most interesting characters in the book. Harry is a bit of a jerk for the reasons Pynki stated and I too believe that Ron, while portrayed brilliantly by Mr. Grint, was given very little to work with from the writers.

There is no way anyone would buy a hero that was not flawed, we are human afterall. Thanks for the insights with the books, maybe I do need to just settle in for a long winter's nap with Ron and the rest /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

The "Potterverse" while not as dense as Tolkein's world is lush in it's own way and the books are really quite a good read (fast too).

PREACH ON BROTHER PREACH ON! Now move over.

I think one of the biggest mistakes the franchise made was having Steve Kloves continue as screen writer. He publicly spoke ill of Ron's character back when CoS was released saying Ron was his least favorite character and found him to be bland or something to that effect. I fell like thats is the reason Ron was so under developed in the movies the screen writer simply didn't like the character. I truly believe that If he had his way he would have written Ron off completely. Look at what he's done, he has a habit of giving Hermione Ron's lines.

OHHH :::Bounces up & down on soap box::: I was soo looking forward to seeing Ron and Hermione dance at the wedding and was so sad that they cut it out of the movie only to give the dance to Harry latter on. I was Like "What the everlasting F**K! Did they really turn a Ron and Hermione moment in to a Harry Hermione one? You have GOT to be kidding me!" But then thats Kloves for you. I thought he would have gotten over his disappointment of Harry and Hermione not getting together by now but…

DON'T SAY THE NAME ITS TABOO!!

Easy there chica…i used lower case "V".

Was listening to Stern this morning on Sirius and there was a news item that was saying that Harry Potter wands from the Hogwarts attraction at Universal Studios Orlando are outselling Mickey Mouse ears. Apparently, the park is doing some incredible business and the merchandising is off the chain. Lines for the gift shops are quite extensive (guess that means J & G will be investigating…especially if Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves or the Bloody Baron show up) and it's putting a crimp in Disney's bottom line which is in direct competition as they're near each other. Thought you'd enjoy that. The wands seem to be the best sellers, but a general rush on official swag is the norm.
