OfflineWhatcha think? Have you read the books?
I have read book 1 and half of book 4 (don't ask). LOL
I do intend to read the entire series.
I loved the movie.
The thing about these movies is that there is so much wrapped up into the series … drama, humor, great characters, good, bad, and magic! The really just reach out and grab you with the movies, so much so that when they end I'm really sad!
Why can't life be one long Harry Potter movie?

OfflineI saw the movie last weekend with my husband and 19 year old daughter. I did not read the books and have been trying hard to cram in all the prior movies. With this confession that I am not a long time fan of the HP books and movies I must admit that I really enjoyed the movie. I had to ask my daughter what a lot of the inside jokes were and about 'who's who at the zoo' so that was the challenging part for me. Overall, I was surprised at how dark and scary these movies are. Much more so than any thing I watched as a kid and I agree with whoever said that JKR never intended these stories for children. There are so many universal themes that are hit on about good and evil, love, and betrayal, which always makes for a good story, The acting, costumes, sets and special effects are really done so well. I have dvr'ed 2 more that I haven't seen yet and am looking forward to watching them this weekend. All in all, I daresay that I may be a Johnny come lately but I believe I am becoming a fan!
OfflineIt was a good movie, they put a lot of the details from the book into this movie. Guess that's why it's going to be two parts. I only noticed a few things that they changed for the movie but oh well. It was good.
I'm wishing that they spend the first ten minutes or so of the last movie to cover everything from the previous movies. I think that would be pretty cool.

I thought Peter Jackson did a cool thing w/the Two Towers, by doing a little recap on what happened at the end of FOTR.

OfflineI just watched HP and the Order of the Phoenix, I need some help understanding who Sirious is. Is he Harry's Godfather or did I hear him say he was his "blood father"? Also, I love Helena Bonham Carter in every movie I have seen her in. What is her relationship to Sirious? I think I need a family tree to keep track!

I don't follow them very closely, but I think Harry's father is James Potter, Sirius is Harry's Godfather and Bellatrix (Helena) is Sirius' first cousin.
I think.. /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yes, this is all true…Sirius Black is Harry's godfather and he is Bellatrix LeStrange's first cousin. Bellatrix winds up killing him at the Ministry of Magic. Sirius was a personal friend of Harry's parents and was sent to Azkaban prison wrongly for a murder he didn't commit and became an outlaw when he escaped. He is (like James Potter and Peter Pettigrew) an unregistered Animagus…which means he's a wizard who possesses the ability to change into an animal form a skill that must be registered with the M.O.M. Remus Lupin was also a friend of Harry's parents, but a Werewolf, the other 3 learned how to change form so they could be w/Lupin when he changed during the full moon. The four created the Marauder's Map that Harry inherits from the Weasley Twins.

I've asked this question before but am not sure if it's been answered or perhaps I just forgot….but wouldn't Voldemort and Harry be distant cousins? Harry was a decendent of the Peverell brothers (the origin of the invisibility cloak) and the Gaunts were also decended from the Peverell's as Voldemort's grandfather has the Resurrection stone…could this be?

I didn't like it. But truth be told I'm not a huge fan of the movies so my disappointed didn't come as a big surprise. My biggest qualm with them is the way Ron's character has been treated. But Steve Kloves (the screen writer) stated early on that he didn't like Ron so i guess i was destined to not be crazy about the movies seeing as Ron Weasley is the love of my life.
After watching the movie i got in to a huge fight with my friend. She has only seen the movies and never read the books so went off on Ron for leaving, talking about how he betrayed Harry, was always a wimp and the like. BIG mistake. Yes. Ron left. Yes. he shouldn’t have. No. I don't think he was wrong or blame him for doing so. Why? Because Harry pretty much kicked him out. (in the book) I did love how the fight between Harry and Ron was done and i especially love that in the movie Ron's words were harsher then they were in the book but still think Ron went easy on him. Harry always took Ron's friendship for granted. Harry, to those who haven't read the books, is quite a self centered and arrogant person. But then I may be biased because I love Ron and Hated Harry from the moment he thought he was better then Ron. (Yes there is a part in the books where Harry is thinking about how he is better then Ron it pissed me off because for the first time Ron achieves something Harry didn't and instead of being happy for his friend he goes off and thinks He deserves it and not Ron. FU Harry this is the boy who shared every thing with you, including his home and family, has been by your side and lived in your shadow since day one and this is how you act? once again FU.) Anyway I told my friend that she should read the books before she passed any judgment on Ron because the movies portray him as Harry's wimpy sidekick when in the books Ron is the first person to get in someone's face and the last to back down. It's Ron who doesn’t let Harry back down from Malfoy, It's Ron who pushed harry aside and let the "dog" get him instead it was Ron who stood up to Sirius black, on a broken leg no less, and tell him he would have to kill him if he wanted to kill Harry. Since book one Ron has thrown him self in the path of danger to protect his friends whenever he could. The movies never show this and she felt stupid when i sat there with the books and pointed it all out to her. NO ONE insults my Ron, no one!
I found the movie to be a bit rushed and the emotions seemed wrong. Mrs. Weasley didn't seem all that upset about George, Harry at his parents grave was far to un-emotional. Ron's return… Oh boy… That was a great moment between Ron and Harry in the books. It was the when Harry realized how much Ron meant to him and was too chocked up to even finish a sentience, and they didn't have any of that in the movie. The two thing I was most looking forward to in the first part was that and Malfoy manner and they screwed that up to. They didn't have Ron begging them to take him instead of Hermione, or him hysterical and screaming her name crying. They didn't really show Draco's reluctance to give up the trio. The level of dread and fear just wasn't there, it was too calm and slow paced. Dobby's death… don't get me started on that. I found the emotional aspect to be lacking.
Yes Harry and Voldemort are distant cousins. But the thing I find more disturbing than that is Ron and Draco being second cousins.

2012? Seriously? I survived Y2K, 9/11, 6/6/6, 9/9/9, H1N1, & Swine Flu. BRING IT ON!!!
