Remember the next generation is being picked up by another author. He's already into book two and they are pretty good. He picks up the characters and everything fairly well. I've read the first one and read a little bit of book two. My wife read them very quickly and enjoyed them.

We went to Kinkos and had them print them up and bind them. It cost a penny but it was easier than reading off the computer.

Harry's father was an only child who came along late in his parent's life. There's no mention of what they did for a living, but I'm thinking they were well off. I think the Peverells was from his mother's side (?) and were a very old pure blood family. To my recollection they never clarified what Harry's parents did for a living.

Lily was Muggel born.

from what I've pieced together I think James Potter lived a similar life to Draco. Only child to very wealthy parents who worshiped him.

I remember hearing once that they were full time Order members, James was that rich.

Oh that's right….Lily being muggle born…so the Peverell's were the from James' side.

I don't remember some of the stuff you all are talking about. Good thing I'm re-reading them all.

The best thing about these books is they get better with every re-read and you notice thing you never did befor, like Harry being a horcrux and needing to die at the hands of Voldemort was foreshadowed in the first book.

::: going to find the passage::

Book 1 chapter 15- "The Forbidden Forest"

"Firenze saved me, but he shouldn't have done so…. Bane was furious… he was talking about interfering with what the planets say is going to happen…. They must show that Voldemort's coming back…. Bane thinks Firenze should have let Voldemort kill me…. I suppose that's written in the stars as well."

I realized that part but didn't catch on about it in the first book. It's still good to re-read and pick up stuff like that. I have another book series that I read that is like that. Each time you read a new book in the series you have to re-read the ones before and you pick up new stuff. I have a few of them that I have read about 25 times a piece.

If she was so inclined, what "prequel" areas would you like JKR to delve into?

Snape's life. I'd love a detailed version of his life

before Harry.

On this I would agree. The bits and pieces you get from OOTP, the HBP & DH ARE intriquing. I would love to know how he came up w/"Sectumsempra".

I would love to read how Hogwarts was founded. The Sorting Hat doesn't do it justice.

This would also be a nice area to delve into!

Yep, that is something that interests me. Kinda like in Star Wars, there is a series of the comic books that take place 5,000 years before Luke Skywalker was born. It's pretty good and you can see how things form for the movies.

Oh god don't jinx HP by mentioning the dreaded Star Wars prequels! Lucas must be deranged. I stopped going to the prequels after the first one w/young anakin and the pod races. It disgusted me how the movies are less about the story and more (IMHO) about marketing toys and merchandising towards young'uns. SHAME ON YOU GEORGE LUCAS…JUDAS!!!

I think we're around the same age Ryan and I remember some of the comic books, but never collected or read them. I actually read the soft cover star wars book before seeing the movie. My Mom dragged my dad to see it and he didn't talk to her for a week afterwards. Apparently, the maternal parental unit didn't think I could handle Darth Vader.

Here's some star wars prequel trivia you may or may not know…Darth Maul was played by Ray Park, but vocalized by Peter Serafinowicz (who plays the pushy third roommate Pete in Sean Of The Dead and is also featured in the BBC's Spaced as Dwayne Benzy). Ray Park has also played Toad in the first X-Men and most recently seen on NBC's Heroes as the carnival speedster.

Back to the topic, I think the origin of Hogwarts would be interesting, but I'd also like to see some stuff on the original rise of Voldemort and the death eaters!

Ray Parks also played Snake eyes in the GI Joe movie. He still has some awesome moves.

As for the Star Wars prequels. I too hated the first one. The second is a little better and then the third one was is probably my third favorite of the series.

When I was talking about the prequels in books, there is a series called Tales of the Jedi by Darkhorse comics. It covers the history of the Jedi from 5,000 to 4,000 years before Luke Skywalker was born. It's a good read and I wish they would consider letting someone do a movie or even a series on this. I could even handle the people doing the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network doing it.

Speaking of oddities in Potterverse…was there ever any mention of what the deal was w/Mrs. Norris (Filch's Cat)? Because she didn't seem to act like a "normal" cat. Also do squibs have longer live spans like wizards? Filch seemed to be quite old. Did the curse against Dark Arts teachers end at Hogwarts when Voldemort died?

My wife and I watched it the other day. She kept pointing out scenes that take place at the end of the book so we think the trailer covers both movies.

Yes, I think you're dead on about that. They just finished principle photography on it…i think this trailer is showing a bit of everything….can't wait.
