OfflineWell just came back from the midnight showing of Harry Potter.
Some one find me David Yates, David Heyman and Steve Kloves so I can crucio their arses. What a let down.
/ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> I don't feel so bad now I didn't get my golden ticket for last night/morning. lol
By the time, I got home the day the tickets went on sale, all 8 shows were sold out, they had shows up till 4 am.
Never missd an opening. I think I'm waiting until it's less crowded.
Sorry to hear this Pynki. I'm glad I have yet to read the last book, I always wait, till after the movie.
I could not help comparing, and I'm very critical of films in general, anyway. I do this with True Blood also, won't read ahead.
OfflineRunning morning errands I went past the local movie house at around 10am…the parking lot was PACKED and had spilled over in to the adjoining lots, I've heard it's already made $90 million.
(looks around for support or at the very least someone who'll be able to revive or apply first aid)…
SO Pynki, ummm, what went wrong with DHp2?

It was too fast paced, There was too much going on at once and it just completely missed it's mark. Call me morbid but I was a bit upset that they didn't show Fred's death. Then they didn't allow me to morn him. They showed his dead body surrounded by his family Ron crying over him and that was it. if it lasted 30 seconds it was a lot. This is a Weasley. One of the fcuking Twins!! Next to Ron they are my favorite characters. and it being Fred… My favorite twin since 'I'm not Fred, I'm George.' … 'Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can't you tell I'm George?' and they didn't give me time to say good bye.
They did that a lot didn't give you time to dwell and take in what you were watching. Like The prince'es tale OMFG I want to cut some one with the way it was rushed. (But Alan Rickman deserves an Oscar for his performance.)
Yates is just a terrible director. The angels he used were just bad. The shots were ether too long or too close up and took you out of the movie and the blocking was horrible. He tried to hard to be creative innovative and artistic and seemed to forget that less in more. In interviews he kept saying that this one was a war movie and it was, and this where he and those shites disguised as men Kloves and Heyman went wrong. The battle of Hogwarts was pure happenstance so It shouldn't have been the main focus of the last movie. It should have been about the end of the journey Harry Ron and Hermione embarked on in his first year.
Harry Potter is not a series about war. It's a series about how love, whether it be that of a Mother, lover, family, friend or the unrequited kind truly is the strongest force to exist. About how it can save a lost soul and the life a a small child. It's a series about growth and finding your place in life, about doing whats right over whats easy, about standing up for what you believe in. This movie was about how many big budget explosion they could fit into two hours.

2012? Seriously? I survived Y2K, 9/11, 6/6/6, 9/9/9, H1N1, & Swine Flu. BRING IT ON!!!

I haven't seen the movie yet but my comments here NOW will be solely on observations I've made about the books and the other movies.
One of the things I've always enjoyed about her writing is that for something that on the surface appears so simple, is, in reality, much more complex. In the film business when handed such rich source material the challenge becomes daunting…How does one tell the story so as to welcome NEW fans into that universe while staying true to the material and appeasing the fans of the literature. Why do you think it took them so long to create a legitimate Lord of the Rings? Much like Potterverse, it's not JUST a story of good versus evil and to label it as such is doing the material an incredible disservice. While I think Rowlings' primary message IS love, it's also apparent that she's expressing the concept that Love should also be the motivator to not sit idly by and allow injustices and atrocities to transpire just because it doesn't impact YOUR world. Because though it's not on your doorstep NOW, in time with apathy, it WILL COME. So we either fight back or do nothing and become wraiths ourselves and "die" anyway.
You mention strange blocking and camera angles, so I'm wondering if, perhaps, Yates had the same issues as Michael Bay. In a recent interview about T3, Bay said that he was really upset by the difficulties and logistical nightmares of shooting in 3d. If they'd stuck to 2d perhaps the odd filming techniques wouldn't have been so bad. I know that I've been to movies that worked on so many levels but because of odd film making quirks I became distracted by the cinematography and it ruined the overall experience. Let's not kid ourselves, while there is a higher cost incurred by shooting in that medium (3d) it's a money grab because they charge more for the tickets (and doubly so for Imax).
I won't say anything else here until I've seen the film.

****************************************************************I saw the movie, finally and I was not disappointed (probably because I did not read the book yet). I agree that everytime I see a movie after I read a book I am disappointed too. Pynki is right that they moved really fast in this movie and I could barely keep up because everything was so fast paced. I had to pee and made it to the loo and back in record time. When I sat back down, my daughter told me that Fred was dead! I swear I was only gone about 2 minutes and so that whole scene had to be less than that. Pynki, I thought of your when I learned that one of the Weasley twins met his demise /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I just knew it would be hard for you to see it on the big screen. Sorry that you felt they did his death an injustice by glossing over it so fast. Well, since I am easy to please I came away feeling that I really liked the movie but I realize that hard core HP fans would have very high expectations and so no matter what was thrown up there on the screen would never be enough to really satisfy the die hards. I was very relieved to learn about Snapes secret and to see why he was doing what he was doing. I think that his character is one of the richest overall in the story. The actor that plays Snape is amazing and totally deserves any and all accolades coming his way. Loved Prof. McGonnagle's line: "boom"! I did get very verclempt when Harry encountered his dead loved ones and when Neville Longbottom stood up and bravely faced the enemy, my heart just burst with pride for him. This movie may have had explosions and combat but to me it was not a war movie. Again, the themes about friendship, love, loyalty and goodness prevailed in almost every scene. Can't wait to read the book now because I will get to really explore and learn about all the underlying motivations and learn in detail the important things that the movie was forced to overlook. I really need to understand the whole Malfoy family dynamic a bit more and figure out why they assisted Harry in those moments when they could have exposed him and ended things. I know the book will answer more of this for me. Over and out!

A mother's love for her children is a very powerful motivator.
