OfflineIf you're looking for a unique movie, I'd recommend "The Orphanage"
This was a very unique entry to the classic "ghost story" category of movies, with a surprise, bittersweet ending.
It is subtitled in English, produced by Guillermo del Toro who did Pan’s Labyrinth. I loved the fact that not only was the story line fresh, but having a cast of International characters, made it easier for me to focus on the movie.
It's definately worth the rental if you can find it.
Here's the synopsis from the website I linked:
"Haunting secrets of the past resurface when a child mysteriously disappears in the supernatural thriller The Orphanage, a spinetingler with a jaw-dropping twist that will take your very last breath away! Produced by Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth).
Visionary Guillermo del Toro and acclaimed director J. A. Bayona present The Orphanage, a “positively terrifying” (John Anderson, Newsday) new vision of the classic ghost story. Returning to her childhood home – a mysterious, seaside orphanage – Laura and her family unknowingly unleash a long-forgotten, evil spirit. Now, thrust into a chilling nightmare that involves the disappearance of her young son, Laura must confront the memories of her past before the ghosts of the orphanage destroy her… and everyone she has ever loved."

Yes, I found that I liked this movie as well. Brought a tear to my eye at the end.

Hey, thanks for the rec. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> I haven't heard of this one, but it looks like something I'd enjoy.

Offlineim more comfy at home in my recliner with the lights off and a bowl of popcorn and a drink beside me. If I have to, I can pause it to go to the bathroom etc. I still like to turn my phone off and such. and keep people quiet. In the theater, i dont know how many movies have been ruined for me because some jerk behind me cant shut up! Especially when theyve seen it before and they give up the best parts before they happen. Nope I'll just watch them at home.
I will say, every once in a while, one comes out that I would like to see on the big screen, but it has been a loooong time since Ive felt the need to go to a crowded expensive theater. jmo
OfflineDon't know if anyone else is a Rob Zombie fan or not…but hubby and I are hooked. (I think I may have mentioned in the "Halloween" thread that we are going to dress as Living Dead Girl and Dr. Caligari this year)
One of my birthday requests is to go see Halloween 2 in the theatre when it comes out. I simply can't wait! I really love Malcolm McDowell…about the only one who could fill Donald Pleasance's shoes in my opinion.

I concur completely!
Monkette and I used to go to the movies quite a bit but after a run of crappy films and even stranger audience members, we just gave up. Now we go when the the films are down to 2 – 4 showings a day locally and that's it. The stories I could tell about this are bizarre and that's being kind. Even recently, we went to see the latest Harry Potter and the theater was packed and they didn't put the a/c on it was gross. Especially in one of the smaller theaters. Kinda hurt the showing. One of the worse was when we went and saw DaVinci code, great googly moogly. There was this insane women who was all tweaked out on some sort of medication and was laughing manically in inappropriate spots during the film (imagine de Niro from Cape Fear and you're 25% of the way there), people were getting up and moving away from her and she kept moving her seat to follow the crowd…it looked a little like a Benny Hill routine. Apparently this Bellevue escapee had never read the book and had no idea what it was REALLY about and when the it was revealed the identity of the French girl (forget her name was it Shei LeBoef?) this woman started screaming "BLASPHEMY" at the top of her lungs and finally left when the film had 10 minutes left. Thanks for nothing you nut.

OfflineSherlock Holmes looks interesting in the previews. I plan to see that one when it is released. I think it is to be released in December. Cant remember. Believe it or not the famliy went and saw the HP movie again.
I liked the previews, also. Put it on my must see list, I like Guy Ritchie movies. Downey and Law, looked great in the previews as main characters.
We went to see HP, three times. lol Loved it!
OfflineHas anyone seen Inglorius Basterds? I want to see it, maybe this week.
