OfflineWith the hiring of a babysitter, my wife and I have been going out to the movies left and right.
We've seen:
Terminator 2
Star Trek
Transformers 2
Harry Potter and the half blood prince
All of them were good. Star Trek was the best out of those I listed. My wife was upset about all the stuff they cut out of Harry Potter but it was still pretty good. They did a good job at keeping a lot of laughs in the movie despite the dark mood of the book.
OfflineWe have seen
Star Trek (awsome!!!!)
Transformers 2 (exellent)
Harry Potter-Half Blood Prince (it was great except for the end which was lacking a bit.)[/quote]
That's a bummer, i've been trying to figure out where they're going to split the deathly hallows into two stories.
I know it's not a movie, but the king tut exhibit is over in San Fran and I think monkette and I are going to go check it out. It'll be my second time seeing it (the first time would be the original tour in the late 70s early 80s at the National Gallery in DC)and monkette's first.

The fan fiction that Ryan turned me onto for james potter (harry's son) while not at the same level as JKR is compelling all the same and I'm having a hard time putting it down. And you can't beat the price….free download.

I downloaded it, but I haven't really read much.
I don't like reading at the computer. When I
read I like to curl up in the comfy recliner, pop
my iPod on and escape. It's not the same reading
off the monitor.

The last book was okay but I was bummed because there were some very obvious missing links in that chain. The fan fiction sort of fills in the gaps but it would've been nicer if JKR had done it.
I think that the filming of the Lord of the Rings was important and WILL impact how the Potter Deathly Hallows will be handled. The reason JRRT let the film rights go for a pittance was, at the time w/film techniques available, it couldn't be done. He was right to an extent. You couldn't film it page by page, it doesn't work. Essentially, a reimagining of the literary work has to be done. A stripped down overly simplified version of the essentials has to be at the core and in the case of LOTR a TIMELINE of events has to be established. LOTR in it's literary from bounces all over the place and moves forward and backwards in time covering the various off shoots of the original fellowship. Peter Jackson knew that if any one of the first 2 films bombed, it would doom the rest of the franchise. So what he and his writing team did was sit down and pour over the books for the ESSENTIALS pulled them out and reassembled them in a linear fashion that would translate to a film audience. I know tons of people who NEVER read ANY of the tolkien books who completely understood the movies and storyline. Non essential characters were trimmed, but important or iconic dialogue was rearranged and reassigned to mesh w/the action. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they won't do the whole camping route but will find other "devices". I think the film folks will take into account that there are plenty of people out there who've never read the books and the movies for the most part will be aimed at them culling on information previousily presented in the other films. While Peeves is a great character and ghostly Professor Binns etc they're not essential to the films. The goblet of fire for instance the book says nothing of Harry's dragon breaking free and the chase that insues, but it's fantastic in the film as a device to show how truly dangerous the Triwizard Tournament can be. I think they'll keep the camping to a bear minimum, but I really need to see this film to figure out how they'll shape the other two.

I was able to take it to a friend who printed it all up for me, so i've got it printed out and stapled by chapter, makes it easier to read!

it was the majority of the book though. they wont be able to cut out too much of it,
especially if they are making two movies from the book. i have a feeling that camping
trip will be a HUGE part of at least one, if not both of the movies.
OfflineWe watched Knowing with Nicolas Cage last night on DVD, and I completely agree with Mindy's review in the May issue.
Interesting plotline, but some less than convincing acting and many places during the movie that just didn't work.
I did find parts of it entertaining, but was a bit disappointed with it overall.

Yeah, they should change the name of the movie to "Blowing". /ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Seems they spent their wad of cash on old Nick. The second rate hacks they hired for the other spots were really bad, from overacting from the female lead, to the fake crying by the kid, and the inappropriate "leaving the kids by themselves in the car" that no parent in their right mind would do. The movie just left me wanting, for lack of a better term.

OfflineKnowing was, well knowing when to turn it off. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> But, I kept watching. The ending was really bad!
Harry Potter rocked. Very well done! Waiting for HP in IMAx on the 27th.
A great film is Coraline. We are a artsy family and I collect animation art.
The stop- motion animation is stunning!
The Blu-Ray has a 3 D option. Watched the movie both ways!
Your children will love it, and the film has a great story line.
Looking forward to Alice In Wonderland.
The previews look great. Rickman is the Cheshire Cat, good call! /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
