OfflineThink the last time I was at the movies…was rise of the planet of the apes
That was the last new movie I saw myself. I actualy went to see The Phantom Menace 3D but that was an old movie (note: the 3d effects weren't all that great).
Seeing new movies for me is not due to lack of time but lack of interest in any movies out there that interest me. I don't want to see yet another movie with Reese Witherspoon where men are fighting over her. Or Angelina Jolie pouting her over puffed up lips. Or Johnny Depp dressed up like someone from the Viliage People on LSD.
Speaking of Johnny Depp…there was a pic of him in the paper today in charactor as Tonto from the upcoming Lone Ranger movie. sigh…can't this guy play a normal looking person in a film?
I do want o see Act of Valor and am looking forward to the Avengers movie.

OfflineJohn Carter!
It's on my list. Maybe this coming week?
Normally I'd be down with something like this, but for some reason it's just not grabbing me, not completely sure why. Perhaps the fact that it's supposed to be on the surface of Mars. Total Recall STILL works because most of the action took place below ground. (shrugs) Dunno.

OfflineAnd they are coming out with a new Total Recall movie which is supposed to be closer to the story. I don't know. This is just annoying of yet another re-make. Granted most of the movies out there based on books don't always follow the story line to the letter but that dosn't mean it has to be remade if the first was good enough. I know most of Arnolds movies were tweeked to his persona, The Running Man book (written by Steven King) I believe was about a man who volunteered to go on the show to win money for a sick relative. Not as it was in the movie having Arnold framed for a murder.
Anyhow…Gonna go play mega millions today, win millions and do my own movie! /cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
OfflineI just saw the American version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo last night. For those of you who have NOT read the book, the movie was not too bad. I will warn anyone who's a little faint of heart, that this is not standard "family faire" kind of movie. This movie is, as the books were, VERY VERY DARK. The subject matter is quite twisted. I've NOT seen the original Swedish movies all thought I've heard good things about them. Just as a heads up that the Swedish ones come with subtitles.
My complaint with this film would only be that someone needs to get in there and clean up the audio…half way through the film I had to turn on the subtitles because the music/background audio made the dialogue almost unintelligible. Lizbeth Salander is not portrayed in either the book or movie as a loquacious or gifted orator, so I did find that distracting.
All of that having been said, I would give this a SOLID 3.5 out of 5 nanners hopefully someone will get in there and clean up the audio and make it less muddled, although I'll have to listen to the director's commentary and see if this was intentional. I thought the books, while dark and twisted in the extreme, gave us some of the most powerful characters in recent literary history. Hope his estate gets the legal wrangling out of the way and publish what's left of his manuscripts…only if they're decent.

OfflineJust saw the second Sherlock Holmes for the second time. Even better this time around …
Also watched John Carter with Chad. Much better than I expected. The previews really didn't excite me on this one, so it was a nice surprise to actually like the movie.
Also watched Journey to … starring The Rock. Entertaining too.

Yes, Monk. I recommend checking it out. They didn't market the movie right. Not being familiar with the story, the trailer didn't give me a good representation of the movie so it surprised me. Part action, part love story, … it was entertaining. I loved the ending.

OfflineGreetings Everyone….time for another installment of Monkey at the Movies….today I saw "The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey".
Firstly, I did NOT see this film in IMAX, but DID see it in that Real 3d or whatever it's called….save your money. I didn't see anything in the movie that I felt warranted the effect but that was me. I also didn't notice anything strange about the new extra frames a second PJ (Peter Jackson…because we're just SUCH close friends at this point) employed for this endeavor. The film was uber SHARP & CRISP, but the motion sickness…didn't notice it. As usual beautifully shot, the attention to detail flawless, make up, CGI blended almost perfectly w/real action just amazing.
I won't spoil anything but word is this is to be a trilogy and as such I suspect PG, Fran Walsh & Phillipa Boyens plundered Tolkein's other works to flesh out enough material to stretch this out, needlessly in my mind. Just like LOTR before it, fans of the book will be disappointed by the omission of great characters and the inclusion of others who may have only gotten passing references in Tolkein's works. So if you can live with the kind of tinkering Jackson did in the LOTR then you probably won't get too bent out of shape on this one either. If you DID have an issue before, weeelllll, better hold on to your hat. Essentially what they appear to be doing is laying the ground work for LOTR this is a PREQUEL after all.
I may go again to see it because it's just one of those films that has lots going on at all time. Was I entertained? Yes, Was I bummed at some of the character exclusions, yeah a little. But I am going to go see it again whilest on vacation just regular though not 3d.
I'd give it a solid 7 to 7.5 nanners on the monkey scale.
Throwing poo atcha from the balcony….
The Monk
Saw trailers for Star Trek Edge of Darkness, a zombie romantic comedy called "Warm Bodies" (I think) and Tom Cruise & Morgan Freeman in something called
"Oblivion", all looked interesting.
