OfflineI really enjoyed HP 7.
We went Thursday midnight, Friday morning. Waited in line with our pre-purchased tickets, with the rest of the Potter heads.
It was my daughter"s birthday at the stroke of midnight, and we celebrated with 12:02 showing, as usually in our favorite characters costumes.
I do a good, McGonagall. lol
We had a blast with the peope in line, and did some tailgating, arriving 3 hours early.
We've never missed a midnight showing. Only one more movie to go, sniffle.
David Yates did this series justice, again as director.
Monkette and I are going tomorrow morning…10:35a

OfflineOk, so I totally missed the boat, plane, car and train on the Harry Potter books and movies. Would it be a waste for me to see the Deathly Hollows movie without reading or seeing the others first? I guess I was a HP snob but now I feel like I am missing out on something really special. Please provide guidance to an ignoramus like me /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Milo, it's no problem and ignoramus is NOT a word I would EVER use to describe you. If it makes you feel any better I've been that way with plenty of programs in the past, but wound up, much as you noted above, feeling like I was missing out on something. By the time I get "into the swing of things" (as they say), it's over.
I'm not sure how others folks feel but here's what I would tell you. Short answer, yes, it would probably be a waste of time to go see the Deathly Hallows by itself. It wouldn't make too much sense. But, seeing as the movie just came out, you've probably got enough time to check out the others first before this first part goes to video or limited theater showings. Last year the Disney channel (I think it was) showed the first three on "regular" TV back to back around Christmas. Naturally, the books ARE better, but that having been said, you're not missing out on TOO much by sticking w/the movies:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (split into parts one and two for the movies only)
I read the books first before seeing the movies and that helps a little in making more sense of the movies, some folks seem to have a hard time getting through the accents, but just watching the movies alone shouldn't be a problem. The books I find very clever as the "maturity" level of the themes seems to mesh up w/the maturing of the main characters. If you get a chance to read the books, I don't think you'll be disappointed either.

OfflineJust saw Inception. Wow. It's going to take me a while to think that through.
Great movie, though.
What a great movie! I'm in the middle of second viewing, maybe I should just stop, it's leading me to more questions.
Very interesting idea, if this was possible. Wow, it could change everything, or just destroy.

Yep – it is definitely not a movie you watch mindlessly. I'll probably watch it on PPV again here soon.
We're watching Pirate Radio on HBO right now. Could be interesting…
OfflineWe saw True Grit this evening.
**************Spoiler Alert********************
I loved it! Has anyone gone to see it yet? The scene where Little Blacky is run to death while Rooster is trying to get her to the doctor was so well done. I actually began to cry when Mattie was crying out because her pony was dying- wow, that snuck up on me. Rooster's character seemed a bit more complex in this movie. Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and especially the actress that played Mattie all did a great job. I do want to find out who played a bit part as a traveling vet/ doctor. He was dressed in a big, old bear skin (head and all) while riding through Indian Territory with a cadaver strapped to his horse. He had such a distinctive, familiar voice! Go see it so we can discuss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, where do I start with this??? First and foremost, I haven't seen the movie yet, so perhaps I should completely refrain from saying ANYTHING here until then, but, I want to let y'all know right up front that I have major issues with the Coen Bros (look elsewhere on this site for that or contact me personally and I'll be more then happy to fill in the blanks on that one). Also, I view this in the same vein as Steve Martin redoing the Pink Panther movies…..BLASPHEMY!!!
Out of principle, I'll probably NOT see this film because it's the Coens. I want so badly to enjoy their stuff, but have yet to and just don't want to throw my money down the well…AGAIN. We'll see

I will have to find your posts about your opinions on the Coen Bros. Since I went into it with very little bias, it probably allowed me to enjoy the movie. Of course, I knew it wouldn't be an "original" movie but that may just be less of a deal breaker for me than for other moviegoers. I respect your opinion and look forward to learning why you have issues with the Coen Bros.
OfflineThe one movie I saw in 2010 – that I will NEVER get that time back was:
SKYLINE.
That movie was a total waste of time. It had no plot, no characters, no real ending (Closure) … My son and I walked out and went, was there a point to the movie?
My son said, "Dad, I was hoping if I stared into the Blue Light, it would make me brain dead for the rest of the time. It didn't."
Even the special effects were not that "cool" … to help take the 'sting' out of it.
We went and saw R.E.D. a week later and it was a FULL HOUSE, which amazed us, because it had been out now for a 'good long while" (months). When the movie ended we understood why it was still a "FULL HOUSE" this movie was pure fun! Great Characters, great plot and it was FUN. (Unlike SKYLINE.)
I was not as impressed with IRONMAN II as I was with IRONMAN I. I wished they had kept IRONMAN's ID still a secret. But that's just me. The upcoming "The Avengers" … might be good, time will tell.
I also thought the last INDIANA JONES – Crystal Skull .. was .. well … "geriatric" to be 'kind'. They should have stopped with THE HOLY GRAIL. Sean Connery and Ford together was GREAT! That would have been a good ending to the series, a very good ending. Now we have CRYSTAL SKULL as the Ending. /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I'm NOT looking forward to the new TRANSFORMER movie. I'm actually dreading it …. because of the UFO found during Neal Armstrong's EVA … that NEVER HAPPENED! The problem? The Conspiracy Theorist are going to go in FULL STUPID MODE with this .. just watch. They will not let a movie just be a movie .. there will be a spin to suggest that TRANSFORMERS are REAL … not to the movie degree, but to a lesser degree and that is where we got the Transformer idea and where we got "new technology" from .. these ET-AI Lifeforms. <-- You read it here first!!! It will happen, just wait and see. . o O ( sigh )
Okay – I'm done: Fine Print: FOR NOW… /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
