Offline*********************POSSIBLE STAR TREK SPOILERS*******************************
On the "nanner scale" 4 out of 5 (prolly a 7 or 8 on a ten nanner scale). I have to agree w/Sithy's assessment of the movie. This definitely breathes new life into a dead franchise. The other major drawing point for this movie is that you don't have to be a fan of any of the various star trek incarnations to enjoy this film. Monkette loathes Star Trek (mainly because she detests William Shatner), but as a fan of Heroes in general and Sylar's character in particular, she was curious about the film. She's also a big fan of Karl Urban and probably would've given this one a higher rating if it wasn't for the ratty hairdo they saddled him with. Personally, I wish there was more Simon Pegg/Scotty but the scenes he was featured in, he stole easily! I'm sure there's more to come. Special effects were way cool and can only imagine how incredible this one would be in IMAX.
I would be remiss if I failed to mention the conspicuous absence of Mr. Shatner (not complaining, I can only handle so much ham during the course of one day) and I must be losing it as I didn't recognize Winona Ryder w/out her house arrest anklets on.
The ideal summer movie I'd say, a well chosen ensemble cast, cool fx and well written!
I'd also like to point out for the sake of mentioning it that the new Peter Jackson project "District 9" looks really interesting!
I agree with you, Monk. Hey – I didn't recognize Winona Ryder, either.
Offline***************POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR ANGELS AND DEMONS????******************
I think that the mark of good directing is the ability to not only avoid screwing up good source material (re: The Watchmen Movie) but interpreting it in such a way to make it appealing to all viewers. Ron Howard (& his production/creative team) have really out done themselves on this one (yet again). It really is hard to go into too much detail here about plot or script w/out giving things away. The pacing is great and I'd love to see which were sets and which were actually on location. I remember the book to have a more dire feel to it and a better explanation of the main protagonists motivation beyond money though.
A solid 3.5 on 5 scale and 7 on 10 scale.
Next up, Terminator Salvation

Offline"Marshall, Will, and Holly on a routine expedition,
met the greatest earthquake ever known.
High on a rapids it struck their tiny raft,
and plunged them down a thousand feet below,
to the Land of the Lost."
I laughed a lot during the movie.
If you like complete silliness, then you'll laugh and be entertained. If not, don't go. LOL

Still have to watch it!
Will was on a radio interview here locally the other day. He was a riot. They played some clips of the show, and it sounded pretty funny.
