OfflineStar Trek was awesome. A must see movie.
I feel that the franchise was pretty much dead, but this movie pumped new life into it. I look forward to more such movies in the future. I just wish they would come out with a new TV series, based on the characters in this movie, with maybe the new (original) crew even doing another 5 year mission.

Agreed! I'd definitely watch.

OfflinePlease don't do spoliers here! You will find that I am severely challenged in the movie department! We just don't go to movies…wait for them to come out on dvd.
The last "new" movie I watched was The Dark Knight. Does that tell you anything?
However I do want to see Star Trek, I hope it comes to the drive-in right down the road!

Y'know I own that movie, but not as big a fave as hot fuzz. It has it's moments but not as strong a total film as either fuzz or shaun. IMHO. That having been said, I still rather watch anything he's in…have you seen "spaced" the bbc series? You can get the whole series on a double dvd, it's not too pricey and very funny.

Offline*********************POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR X-MEN ORIGINS:WOLVERINE*********************
On the Monkey Scale, I'll give it 4 out of possible 5 nanners (if it was a 10 nanner scale, i'd place it in the 7-8 nanners range).
It is no secret that Marvel is attempting to solidfy a position as a legitimate player/studio in Hollywood and if they keep making films of this quality it won't be long in the offing. I'm assuming by the title, that we have quite a few other installments in the works (in fact I've read somewhere that Ian McKellan is currently in negotiations w/them to do a Magneto movie of some type, hope this doesn't conflict w/the Hobbit). It shall remain to be seen which of the Xmen will be compelling enough to get the same treatment next.
The movie itself was quite good as a stand alone film, but there are certain aspects of this that puts it at odds w/the previous Xmen releases. Personally, I think when you spend the kind of money on film that was spent on this one, someone on the research team probably should've paid MORE ATTENTION to the TIME LINES of the stories presented so far. The timeline flaws I noticed was the age of one of the main players for the other Xmen movies to come and the use of Humvees by the military. I could go into great detail here, but will save that for any discussion requiring proof that I'm a complete and utter geek for this kind of stuff!
Anyway, I would recommend this film for any fan of the comic book genre films and Xmen fanatics will love the introduction of fan favorite Gambit. Also, there are 2 "easter eggs" at the end of the film, the first one happen a couple of minutes into the credits, the second one happens at the very end of the credits, for completionists worth staying for, but for the casual fan, time to hit the facilities before the long drive home!
next up…star trek!

Offline*********************POSSIBLE STAR TREK SPOILERS*******************************
On the "nanner scale" 4 out of 5 (prolly a 7 or 8 on a ten nanner scale). I have to agree w/Sithy's assessment of the movie. This definitely breathes new life into a dead franchise. The other major drawing point for this movie is that you don't have to be a fan of any of the various star trek incarnations to enjoy this film. Monkette loathes Star Trek (mainly because she detests William Shatner), but as a fan of Heroes in general and Sylar's character in particular, she was curious about the film. She's also a big fan of Karl Urban and probably would've given this one a higher rating if it wasn't for the ratty hairdo they saddled him with. Personally, I wish there was more Simon Pegg/Scotty but the scenes he was featured in, he stole easily! I'm sure there's more to come. Special effects were way cool and can only imagine how incredible this one would be in IMAX.
I would be remiss if I failed to mention the conspicuous absence of Mr. Shatner (not complaining, I can only handle so much ham during the course of one day) and I must be losing it as I didn't recognize Winona Ryder w/out her house arrest anklets on.
The ideal summer movie I'd say, a well chosen ensemble cast, cool fx and well written!
I'd also like to point out for the sake of mentioning it that the new Peter Jackson project "District 9" looks really interesting!
