Seth McFarlane has a really interesting relationship w/FOX. He has said in many interviews and the Family Guy/American Dad dvd commentaries that everything he and his shows represent is so radically contrary to what is PERCEIVED to be FOX doctrine. But he thinks that people are confusing the Fox News Division w/the entertainment branch AND more so Rupert Murdoch's quest for $$$. Fox will put up w/almost anything as long as the moohlah is rolling in. Funny how that works

You do have to give Murdock and Company (Fox TV and News) is that they are more apt to put on the outlandish or liberal side more so than the apparant liberal networks. When ever I see a "conservative" show on a "liberal" network the conservatives are made to look like fools and extreme. I don't think NBC would offer Rush Limbaugh a talk show.

Interesting behind the scenes stuff. Fox always befuddles me anyway. Their news programs have a conservative tilt where some of their prime time shows, such as Glee are really pretty liberal. I'm glad the Foo Fighters decided to not do the show, it is wrong of Fox to strong arm any musical artists to do this show, it is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. With that said, I didn't get to see last night's show but I think I have it recorded (I hope so).

Right off the top, I'm going to say that I DON'T WATCH GLEE. So this is not a criticism of the show itself since I have nothing to base an opinion on.

Recently I heard an interview w/Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters where they said that their management/band had been approached by the producers of Glee to allow their music to be showcased on the program. They turned them down saying that the show wasn't their cup of tea, but thanks anyway. These TV people attempted to strong arm them into doing it saying that there could be long term repricussions of not doing it. That sort of cemented their decision NOT to do it. The two went on to say that they've heard through the grapevine in the music industry that it's a major "no no" to turn them down and that lots of acts are pressured into contributing to the show under the threat of being aced out from any future dealings from the network or any of it's affiliated companies. As alot of the media is inter related, the message is clear: if you don't play ball with us, we'll attempt to close down avenues of media accessibility available to your group. Before you laugh and say it's "Ventura-esque" conspiracy theory, please bear in mind, that Time Warner and Universal (for example), in addition to having a presence in movies, also have cable tv AND radio interests that are quite vast and far reaching. Fox itself does an awful lot of cross pollination (sp?) w/in their own networks. Failure to comply could mean not getting your music played on their sports programs, or movie soundtracks etc, so it's not an "idle" threat at all, there's definite muscle behind their words. They said that if they weren't as popular as they are they'd probably have had no choice and had to do the program even though they don't care for it.

Gee, I don't know. I think the duets are amazing but it would be hard to choose. You will just have to buy the whole seasons one and two! Hey it's the holidays- time to indulge!
