I'm a huge fan of Fox's animation sunday and was wondering whether or not anyone else has noticed that the shows seem to be cut off on the sides? I've noticed it specifically on the Seth McFarlane shows (Family Guy, American Dad & the Cleveland Show). There will be characters speaking that are to the side of the frame but all you see of them is just part of their body and not even their head/face. Is this because of high def? Comcast offers Fox in HD elsewhere on the "band" so I was wondering if anyone else had noticed?

I have not noticed this, but I'll be sure to take note next time I watch.

I think it might be a recent development here, as I just noticed that several weeks ago. Not much for watching television, but I catch some FOX sunday night from time to time.

Usually my HD is resized to be a square in the middle of my rectangle TV. I haven't noticed any characters cut off.

I write books. I take pictures.

No I don't think they are animated in HD but I think they're broadcast in that format…would that explain it?

I don't have a HD TV but we do have an HD cable box/dvr and fox does have a "regular" broadcast feed AND we have a string of "HD" channels. Any time a show is broadcast in HD, it does what you say, it sort of resizes it and centers it. When we watch on the HD channels it solves the problem. I've also noticed that when we watch the Giants games out here on the local NBC affiliate and when they're on Fox, their graphics are cut off and it's impossible to see what the current inning status might be (number of outs, the count etc). Sadly not all the channels are offered both ways.

I don't like the HD resizing, so I never watch those channels, lol.

I think if the animation is sophisticated enough it would make a difference, but the average stuff…probably not so much!

What I learned after getting my HD TV was that if there were black lines on the side the show was/is not in HD. Its when the whole screen is filled then its HD.

I miss the old days of all you had to do is plug a TV in and watch and not have to connect 102 1/2 cable lines to watch…..and no I am not that old to know what it was like before TV,….lol

I'm not always right but I'm never wrong.

I drive Jim and the boys nuts. I have no clue if I am watching something in HD or not. Can't tell the difference – so I'll have to look for the lines thing.

When we had cable (we have satellite now), there were two sets of channels – one HD and one regular. I'd just have it on whatever and Jim would walk in and say "why isn't it on HD?" My response was always, "It's not????"

pffft i cant tell the difference. My son cant believe i cant tell, I dont have HD here but he does at his house and he's is always saying it too, "WHAT? Why arent we watching it in HD?" then he has to show me back and forth, the HD channel and the regular channel, " dont tell me you cant tell the difference, here…. now here? See it? You have to! Its such a big difference" I think its testosterone that makes him see it differently. lol my daughter in law cant tell either.

Just to throw this in…Ive been watching new episodes of Futurama and they take up the whole screen which leads me to believe the new episodes are HD. I say this because I also watch old episodes and they are just a square withthe black lines on the side.

Well, it has to be said, sad to report that it looks like Family Guy has finally jumped the shark. The last few episodes are not that interesting or funny. Couple of good moments but for the most part meh. American Dad is much stronger and I've totally abandoned the Cleveland show.

The Cleveland Show? You mean Cleveland got his own show? I wondered what happened to him. /dry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

American Dad is definatly the better of the three shows.

That sounds an awful lot like Stewie's reaction when Cleveland and Cleveland Jr. head off to Stoolbend, VA…."HE'S getting his OWN show????" I always liked Cleveland's character but he's just not strong enough to carry the whole show….I only made it through about 1 season of that, I think it might be in it's second season if its even still on the air at all.
