I just read that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are going to make a movie version of the cult soap opera "Dark Shadows",
with Johnny Depp playing the role of Barnabus Collins…..filming to begin this April.
Anyone else remember Dark Shadows?

I used to run home after school to catch this. It was great. Nothing ever happened but it was very atmospheric.

My older sisters were the same way about Dark Shadows….pre Charlie's Angels Kate Jackson as I recall. I'm not sure how I feel about this being a Tim Burton production though. Is he going to camp it up or treat it as straight drama? Should be interesting to watch on HBO.

I passed it by in some repeats. My oldest sister used to watch it. Geesh that Barnabas guy looked creepy. Not sure why teen girls at the time thought he was hot…lol As far as the apparant re-make I along with Ryan and Movieman think that Hollywierd has run out of new ideas. I know name recognitions goes a long way and it frees the creative types from actually being creative.
On a side note Johnny Depp has been living the Barnabus life for a long time.
Next up from Tim Burton and Johnny Depp: MacBeth Sissorhandshands and Julius Ceasarian Birth.
These two have already ruined at least two classics….Planet of the Apes and the Legand of Sleepy Hallow.

I meant that I'm waiting for it on HBO, I won't even waste a rental on it and seriousily DOUBT that i'll go see the movie. Aside from the Pirate movies, not that impressed w/the Deppster lately. I'm not hatin' on the man, I actually like his work, but lately????Meh.

I liked him in the Ninth Gate. I loved that movie. But yeah, Pirates was ok with him in it. I think everyone that was in them made that series. I didn't like Alice in Wonderland at all.

Really? Ninth Gate?? Didn't care for that one or Alice. I did like Chocolat and was meh on his Public Enemy or whatever that was where he played Dillinger.

I loved "Dark Shadows" when I was little. I used to come home after school (kindergarten, maybe?) and listen to it from my hiding place behind my dad's recliner while my mom ironed. I was too scared to actually watch it, but I wouldn't miss it. It was a kind of radio show for me back then. It wasn't until they started re-running it on the Sci Fi channel that I was able to put faces to the voices. I enjoyed it all over again. I know, I know: I am seriously lame.
Johnny Depp as Barnabus? Not sure I can buy that one but I'll no doubt go see the movie anyway.

Lately, in Depp's Burton's movies, Depp appears to be playing Burton. Sort of his alter ego, imo.
I just watch the visuals, and lose interest in the story.
I loved Dark Shadows, but think it will be a rental for me.
The Rum Diary movie is finally coming to be, after ten years. Loved the book and have always been a fan of Hunter Thompson.
I hoping Depp does this justice, and the rest of the cast looks good.
