yes and could someone please define what is a "classic" horror film? I've asked before but no one answered....

	For instance,

does it have to be in Black and White?

Is it the star (Lon Chaney Sr or Jr, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre etc)?

Can it be Science Fiction in nature or exclusive to monsters only?

Does it come from a specific time period? (pre 1965 say)

Does it have to be gore over suspense/plot?

	What do you think?

Classic movie, and I'll use the term classic for any genre, is, in my opinion is a movie that no matter how many times you see it never gets old. Just one of those movies that still thrills the 100th time you see it. (get your mind out of the gutter...not that type of thrill). And I am sure that one persons calssic is another persons ©rappy movie. But being a fan of most genre's, I can't stand musicals, with maybe the exception of The Wizard of Oz since I grew up watching it...and at times that could be a really scary movie to a 6 year old....dam(n) those flying monkeys!

My husband and I are huge horror movie fans. In fact my hubs even has his own horror blog and podcast. We both hail from New Orleans and used to love staying up late on the weekends to watch Morgus The Magnificent and the horror movies he hosted on his show. I think I have way too many favorites to list. I definitely think a classic horror movie is something pre-1970s, but eventually we may have to include movies from the 80s as the years go on.

I think every market had it's own version of Morgus. In the Philadelphia area it was Dr. Shock on channel 17 (yup good ole UHF) on Saturday morning/ afternoons, if they had someone on later at night, I wasn't aware of it. His daughter "Bubbles" (who was a real little kid in the beginning) would do this campy schtick into and out of commercials, silly harmless fun that the kids today would scoff at. I remember NBC (I think) tried to do a national program w/Elvira who was out of "Hell-A".

I tend to agree w/your pre 1970s thing. Although the Excorcist was early 70s and Night of the Living Dead was late 60s, that's a good line of demarcation. I'm not sure whether we can thank the Hammer films or the Excorcist, but it seems like there was a more heavy leaning on gore etc and less emphasis on the writing that fleshed out the monsters and villians etc. Just my humble opinion. lol.

That's awesome, gaelicgoddess, I bet Morgus was Elvira's idol! For me, anything with Vincent Price is a good horror movie!

"The Innocents" (1961) starring Debroah Kerr is potentially my all time favorite horror movie. Not because it's scary, but rather because the movie intentionally is open to several interpretations of the events that occur. It appears to be a straight forward haunted house movie with elements perhaps of possession. Not until the final scene does a curve-ball come that makes you re-evaluate everything that preceded it -- although the movie is subtle enough so that doubt exists whichever camp of thought you fall into.

Gah... I don't want to offer spoilers, so will leave it there!
