A friend's 11 year old daughter recently told me about one of her dolls, named Lucy, and why she believes it's haunted. Evidently, it's done things like move around by itself, sit up when previously laying down, and most recently, Lucy may have knocked some of her other dolls behind the dresser. For a skeptic, this could all be easily explained, so I told her we could put her story on PUG and see what others with expertise in this area would think.

A few minutes later, she came running out of her room saying that one of the larger dolls which needed a support-stand behind it was suddenly standing upright without it – and somehow the stand had moved in front of the doll. This really freaked her out! As it is, none of her friends want anything to do with the dolls and insist on keeping the closet doors closed when they are over.

Does anyone have doll experiences/stories, other than "Robert the Doll" that is?

Has your friend ever left a camera on the doll? I would.

I had friends who swore they had a haunted "sing and snore Ernie" doll. Even when it was turned off, the doll would make noises and say things like, "I'm so sleepy" and start to snore. They spent months chronicling all of the weird stuff this doll would do. Then one day they looked at the recall list. Turns out old Sing n' Snore Ernie was on it because it would self-activate even when turned off.

I know – that's probably not the case with your friend, but it was an amusing story.

Kids tell stories. Some parents indulge them.

My first thought was "does this girl have a brother?"

She's an only child. I play jokes as often as I can, which prompted her to ask me if I did it… but not this time /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I have this big beautiful doll from the Hamilton Collection. She arrived in her box came with a stand. I got her out of the box and she was bent over sideways to the right. I had a hard time putting her in the stand. I went and looked at the picture she was standing upright. Hmmm, finally got the stand around her and stood her up. She was bent over to the right

Thought it was me lol. I left her there she was safe. Came back the next day and she was totally upright. The doll is not jointed. After that a few days later I started hearing a music box. No I did not know the tune. Have heard it several times.

From what I understand spirits seem to attach themselves to dolls. The guesstimate reason is because dolls are well loved, and closest to what they were when they were alive. True or not I dont know but it makes sense to me.

Great story Myne26. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure she's going to enjoy knowing she's not alone or losing her mind /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Growing up my grandma had this doll. It was on a stand on a low (like floor level) shelf. I swear it was haunted! It was way creepy and I know it watched me. I swear where ever I was its head would turn. It being two rooms connected the eyes could not look everywhere at once. She loved the doll but I refused to be in the room alone with it. I still get the creeps thinking about it and its face. I dont know what happened to it but in one of her moves it disappeared. And I, for one, am glad it did!

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..

Other than Barbie dolls, I have had an aversion to dolls all my life. My sister and my best friend both have collections of china head dolls (like Madame Alexander…Hamilton). Call me crazy, but I never trusted these dolls and almost always have felt as if I were being watched by them. (yeah, I know. supposedly rational adult that gets creeped out by an inanimate object /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> ) Perhaps it is through real craft that dollmakers can give the face the illusion of always looking your direction. I've never had any experiences with these dolls moving, probably would have soiled myself if gravity had made one lean over seemingly on its own.

Aside: my Barbies never moved when I stopped playing with them. They were always too tired! /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Well, there was an old X-Files show, or maybe it was one of the newer "Outer Limits" shows from the mid-nineties, but I do remember specifically this show being on around 1994 – 1995 time-frame. Anyway, in this particular episode this guy worked on a boat which brought in lobster. The story took place on the East Coast, near the Boston area, I think.

One night while bringing up the boxes/traps, there was this old doll inside, and when he turned it over, it's eyes opened and it would say, "Mama." He took it home for his daughter(bad choice). His wife washed the doll's dress and they cleaned it up for their daughter. Then, it wasn't long until the doll began to do really strange things around the house, and in the end, well…….just try and find the show, because I don't want to spoil it by telling the rest. :-) It was a very scary show. I have never forgotten it!

Also, if you'd like to read a really good horror book about a haunted object, then I would like to suggest reading "Heart-Shaped Box" by Joe Hill. A "very eerie" read! /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

If you think you can trust your government, then just ask a "Native American Indian."

I loved playing with Barbies and not regular sized dolls for the same reason. My regular and Madame Alexander dolls were always put in a box and left in the closet.
