OfflineOk, I am sure most have seen this before and I think I may have posted it here somewhere else but recently someone was making comments about it on Facebook and I wanted intelligent opinions so I am posting my questions here.
The story goes something like this in short. Two young girls on a camping trip in Washington a couple years back began snapping off some photos with their cool pix camera. Or something similar. The photo below is one that they got. It was on the news and they showed it while it was still on the cameras viewing screen. Nothing earth shattering but the image is interesting.
The photo was taken by a river, at night, as it began to snow, with flash. It is not my photo and I make no claims as to authenticity etc. All I am saying is that it took an interesting form.
Now what it looks like is obvious. The individual on Facebook didn't find it impressive with added innuendo but claims his photos are real and wondered what the news would think of his. Here is the LINK so you can give your opinions if you should choose to or go to the Facebook discussion . What are your opinions of this compared to his? They all look like mists to me.
He now has added his Youtube Link for scrutiny.

OfflineIt is interesting to me as well but I think it's a case for pareidolia.
Any reported cases near where this was taken or does anyone know?
I remember when I first saw it several people from up that way said they were going to look into it but none ever came back with any info. I guess they were just talking…
…and too far for me to go.

OfflineHere is a video of the girls being interviewed about the image.

Thank You.
OfflineOkay – here's my guess. It comes in from the edge of the screen – as someone's breath would if they were taking a picture in very cold weather. There was several feet of snow on the ground and it was December, so I'm guessing it was cold. It was taken by two young girls who "saw nothing at the time" – but also wouldn't know to hold their breath when taking a picture in the cold. My guess – condensation from breathing that took a form that could be easily interpreted as an angel, a Marian apparition or even a ghost. Still a cool picture though.

Very likely but I think the main point of the photo isn't what it actually is as much as what people perceive it to look like. The whole field is based on a person’s perception of what they saw and then we go looking for what they told us. It is all about the person and our perceptions. So is it an apparition or is it a message?
The point being here is not what caused it but what it represents. Just because it is breath or fog or mist doesn't necessarily diminish its importance.
Ok, now that I played that side of the fence I will say that I have no idea of what it is and it is most likely breath or mist. I guess my whole point is that people sometimes miss the point of what they see. They try to explain it away first and settle for the obvious answer.
For me, I am beginning to look elsewhere than science. Why you ask? Probably because in this field I always hear how people are searching for the truth using scientific means. Kind of leaves me wondering how you will get anywhere using scientific means in a field that has no basis in science.
Now I am babbling and my brain hurts… Where's the Tylenol?
OfflineWell here's my thought about things like apparitions and miracles, etc. If that is what someone perceives it to be, then for them, that is what it is.
If Jesus shows up on a potato chip, even if there is a perfectly logical and natural explanation for it, it doesn't mean it is any less miraculous.
I look at it this way. My sister recently was cured of breast cancer. Her cure came about as the result of a course of treatment – chemo and radiation. Just because human beings came up with the treatment and administered it doesn't make it less of a miracle that a cure exists at all. If someone chooses to see it as a miracle and be deeply affected by that, then I think it is a wonderful thing.

OfflineMost have mentioned Mary but couple of people on Facebook mentioned they saw Jesus. I guess they interpret the dark area around the face as beard.
Very interesting that other than those who just try and explain it away, see a religious scene when it could be interpreted as anything.

OfflineNot to pop open another can of worms but weren't the tenets of psychical mediumship back in the day predicated on a spirit's ability to manipulate the externalized "ectoplasm" from the channeling medium into a recognizable form? …and if so why is mist /fog/smoke figures exempt from such implied manipulation?…
not that I have afforded much credence to the majority of breath/smoke ecto photos out there, but this should be considered in retrospection….b

OfflineTo me…it looks like mist rising off the water. If it has suddenly started to snow, that means that the air is very dry. Dry air that is cold, plus running water may end up causing a mist to rise up off the water. Especially if there is a small pool of water that had been warmed by the sun throughout the day. My 2 cents…
OfflineI think ectoplasm was a fad. I read somewhere and I would love to find it again, but it said there hasn't been an actual reported case of ectoplasm in 50 years.
The cheesecloth photos were, but the concept is still robust to some and many feel it has simply been refined on both sides therefore has been replaced by the more tidy "mental mediumship" …
