OfflineAnd what does that tell you?
It tells me that there is a lot we have yet to learn about the universe.
No one knows why an "observer" – which doesn't have to be human or even conscious – it could be something as simple as a geiger counter – causes the superimposed states to collapse into either a wave or a particle. We just know that it does.
I would point out, however, that the "observer changes the outcome" is perhaps the most misused and potentially misinterpreted extrapolation of quantum physics.
OfflineSo you're saying, and correct me if I'm wrong, the soul, or whatever you might describe consciousness, remains after the physical death of a human being?
I was just saying, that if this did actually occur that the said energy has to abide by Time, so long as it is in our reality/dimension.
But I will say that if the soul is actually its own energy manifestation apart from the physical body, then it would make sense that what we describe as ghosts, or consciousness of the former "living" is plausible if nothing else. One has to reflect that everything is some sort of energy in all the universe and that all is not known completely.
Would you say otherwise?
OfflineI will have to respectfully disagree. Time is a bit more than a device to organize our day. Time exists as the fourth dimensions, just as hieght, width, and depth make up the 3 other dimensions. It just exists as does the others. At least where we are, time must exist for our universe to exist. Otherwise, we certainly would not exist as we are now. Time in our reality is a requirement, not a notion of the human mind.
To explain why the supernatural…people may still be enternal and still have to abide by time is because regardless of what you believe we are all made up of energy and according to the Theory of Reletivity and Quantum Physics as I understand it is eternal. Simply changing state, but not disappearing.
And remember aging is a measurement of time, not the other way around.

Different vibrations would be why only "sensatives" may be able to see and hear ghostly business more than others, and being in a different dimension, than our own means that their reality is certainly different from our own. But to be able to communicate with us means that at least some part of them must be in our own reality…or dimension.
No, I'm pretty sure we would still die even without clocks. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Clocks only measure the passage of time, they don't control it, nor can they stop it. Although, if you spend a Friday afternoon at work staring at one, it will sure feel like it…
What if we've been looking at time, space, and energy the wrong way? Since everything in the universe vibrates in some way, and the amount of energy is proportional to the frequency of the vibration, then maybe time is energy?

Was time invented, or only the concept of time itself? If we had never come to know time as it is now, I wonder what our world would be like? Would we perpetually be late? If a bear looks at his watch in the woods, maybe he is just waiting for the rabbit to come along…wait that was supposed to be… oh, never mind. So many questions, so little time? /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Time couldn't be invented anymore than space could be invented. Is it then that no space exists, only the concept of space? If that were fact, then that would mean that our reality must then be only a concept and thus part of our imagination only.
No, I'm pretty sure we would still die even without clocks.
Absolutely, as clocks are only a measurement of Time and age is only a measurement of Time.
These things only measure what already exists. Just as a tape measure, simply measures space, but it does not create it.

Time was never invented. It came from the factory with the rest of the universe. Duh… /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Exactly!
So, extrapolating, spirits are ultimately outside the purview of time, and we having said spirits within us must also be outside times ultimate grasp. Being immortal does have its privileges after all.
Now, what if we existed in all times at the same time, and time itself was just an illusion along with the reality in which we live? Maybe our spiritual selves when subjected to being put in a physical state must have some sort of structure within which to operate. So we create concepts such as time and space.
Now, I am only throwing this out there to hopefully create discussion. For I find through open discussion that new ideas and ways of thinking can be brought forward.

In that case, because you aren't real, because our reality isn't real, by extension the spirits aren't real. If spirits do not abide by our reality at all, then how do we still perceive them? For that matter how does supposed equipment and tools perceive them? If they are part of our reality in some capacity, then they must adhere to our reality or fail to exist within it.

Unless our understanding of reality is flawed. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

I have always wondered what reality really is. We could just be a creation by our spiritual selves, a dream.
Sorry, I'm just messing with the new guy.
OfflineFirst we must remember that time or the concept of time was invented by mankind. Before the conception of time, it was just there, never being used. The measurement of time like the hour, the minute and the second were invented by humans. The calender as well. Before humans, things like stars and planets down to animals and plants on Earth just came and went. They went on instinct on when to move to another location, to eat, to breed. Mankind with it's advancement and declination of the use of instincts needed something to remind itself to do now what instincts did before.
Now as for spirits and the passage of time, we have to remember that there is considered to be two different types of ghosts: residual and intelligent. Residual hauntings are just loops of a particular event that happened in the past. They might not even contain a real spirit or soul, it's just a psychic impression from a traumatic event. Now on to intelligent hauntings, I don't think anyone has done much emphasis on this subject. Mainly since getting results have been less desirable than wanted. Some people and I have been one of them, don't ask ghosts questions about how long they have been dead. We've been concerned that telling a ghost that they are no longer living turns them off to answering any more questions or performing any other activity during an investigation. Now I have asked questions to get an idea of when they were alive, like asking who the president is right now. Thus far, I've not had any responses to questions like this.
Do ghosts know about time when they are deceased? No one really knows, we can just speculate about our theories, opinions and beliefs but until we die ourselves we might never know.

Well, I definitely know I will be asking a different question or two (like what year is it) the next time I'm engaged with one of the boys. I might even try it tonight when I'm at work. It will be interesting to see what kind of response I get.

I have quite often heard about spirits thinking the year is before they died or at the time of death. So, in those cases, the spirits seem to not know they are dead, yet so much time has passed.
Just rambling.
Anyway, I am interested in what answers you'll get Carolyn.
OfflineIf it is an intelligent spirit, however, wouldn't you think it would recognize that some amount of time had passed because of new inventions, fashions and technologies where they are? If they are in an office building, a home, etc., it would seem that even if time doesn't have the same "feel" to them, that they might have a concept of time passing just because of the changing people, fashions, etc.

I wonder about just how much of the physical environment intelligent spirits are aware of.
