OfflineWow, another sighting, and in CT, no less. That is interesting.
I hope you don't mind my asking, but did you get the sense that it was aware of you, even watching you?
Connecticut definitely is an interesting place in the paranormal world- it's a pretty small piece of land considering the vast amount of paranormal activity. No wonder so many paranormal shows come here for investigations. We've had our fair share of Native American's both being slaughtered and slaughtering early settlers, eccentric wealthy families with secrets and tragedy, insane asylums, both abandoned and still occupied, pirates, witches, cursed land, vagabonds, murderers and suicides. Combine that with loads of granite, lime and water sources, you've got the perfect storm for the paranormal. I've never met anyone in the state who didn't have a story- from haunted homes to visits from paranormal beasts(the black dog of Meriden or the White Wolf who wanders the state seeking those with deep emotional problems).
Anyone interested in learning more, just go to http://www.damnedct.com or google some of our odder locations- Little Peoples Village, Bara Hack, Dudleytown, the old Remington Arms Factory or the old Colt Armory(currently apartments), and the Fairfiled Hills Insane Asylum.
Happy hunting!
OfflineI normally don't contribute anything over in this part of the board, but I will say that w/in the past year one of the paranormal shows dealt w/a similar phenomenon up in New England and I'm thinking it was CT. While this sounds like something more in the line of Destination Truth, they don't really usually handle things in North America. I'm thinking that this might have been something along the lines of Paranormal State. The description you gave sort of jogged my memory…I'll see if I can locate it on their websites to clarify.

That would be great. Any info is welcome and appreciated.

Well, I looked at the episode guide for Destination Truth AND Paranormal State but haven't seen the episode I recall. Now I'm not sure, but your descriptions sounded an awful lot like a show I saw on TV. Ghost Hunters don't handle stuff like that, so that would eliminate those shows, possibly Ghost Adventures, but it doesn't sound like something they would cover either. Oh well, perhaps I'll stumble upon it at some point.

I was curious about your post so I googled "manta ray shadow creature paranormal". This thread came up at the top of the list, interestingly enough. Then I found this item. My sighting was just a shadow creature – no real substance at all – but the creature this person saw in WV certainly sounds a lot like what Jilla08 saw in CT.

I thought it was CT, KK, but when checking the Paranormal State episode guide that had several mentions of WV, perhaps check there again. Like I said, I was focusing on CT not WV.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one whose seen this thing. I don't know about a history of such a sighting in CT, but CT definitely has it's share of the paranormal. I can count on one hand my friends growing up whose homes WEREN'T haunted. The entire area I live, and that's only a sneeze of the state, has tragedy, old homes, marked indian burial grounds, random graves in nearly everyone's yard, and real stories of witchcraft- old and new. The area I saw this thing is an area that's always felt creepy to me and my friends. There are certain areas on roads that I hate driving through- one specifically that I always got incredibly hot going through, despite even the air conditioning. I always got flashes of flames in my head and a feeling of complete dread going through this area- turns out there was a terrible barn fire which was set by some nearby Native Americans back in the 1600's who got into a feud with the colonist family. Everyone in the family and all of the cows perished. It was said that the smell of cooked beef could be smelled even miles away the next day.
Okay that was totally off topic, but it does give an idea of the oddities that are here- I guess if I can still feel the flames after all these years, why not that crazy flying creature- right?

Offlinesaw this on the web….
Thank you SO much for that image. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Since I probably won't sleep tonight thanks to this, I hope you are going to be online all night to keep me company. Maybe someone can open the PUG Cantina because I could sure use a drink about now. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

OfflineIs that real? Do they get that big?
/ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I don't think it's shooped, I don't see the telltale stretches on the fringes of the pictures, but I'll snope it out….
The manta ray (Manta birostris) is the largest species of the rays. The largest known specimen was more than 7.6 metres (25 ft) across, with a weight of about 2,300 kilograms (5,100 lb). It ranges throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks, rays and skates (Elasmobranchii).

WOW! They DO get big!
OfflineMaybe it was the ghost of one of these bad boys that I saw. /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> It certainly seemed that big and ugly to me at the time.
Thanks for the second picture Norcal, but it actually just reminded me of how tiny and scared I felt when I saw that thing. I do appreciate the effort tho.
I know I sound unhinged on this subject. I just wish I could explain how horrible that thing was. This image comes pretty close physically altho it doesn't quite capture the malignant intent.
Wow, I am seriously messed up about this thing. Maybe I need some therapy. I wonder if someone specializes in post paranormal traumatic stress disorder? /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

KK, when I had my scary middle of the night incidents (I decided for me that it was a brain function thing which was caused by stress and other personal factors at play rather than an actual evil presence) I experienced true terror. I was so frightened that I couldn't move and felt held down and utterly powerless. This was the most scared I have ever been, it was such an evil feeling presence that was so dark and truly horrifying. I know our experiences are unique to ourselves but if your feelings of terror from this manta ray thing are anything like what I felt during my incidents then I think I understand a little about how scared you were. I have NEVER felt so afraid in all my life, it was like the darkest, most empty and evil feeling thing that was looming over me. I saw it with my own eyes and I hope it never happens again, it was very traumatic for me. Anyhoo, you are not unhinged. If the thing I experienced is even 1/10th as scary as what you did, there are not even words descriptive enough to do it justice. I would bet that therapists actually have experience with folks dealing with paranormal trauma. I don't think that is too far fetched at all!

Thanks for your support, Milo. It sounds like you know exactly how I felt even though you think yours was not an actual evil presence. I wish I could convince myself of the same but so far, no luck. I haven't seen it again, thank God. I hope you never have a repeat of your experience either. Once is enough for some experiences.
I had to smile at the thought of telling a therapist that I saw a flying manta ray shaped thing, possibly a demon, in my kitchen. Can you imagine? I'd be slapped in a mental hospital before you could say "straight jacket". I saw the thing with my own eyes and I can hardly believe it so I can only imagine how other people would react to my story. The only people I've ever told this story to are my husband, my mom and this board and it's going to stay that way.
It does make me feel better when I occasionally find a story online about someone who has seen something similar. People often see shadows like bats on their ceilings. I think they may be the same thing that I saw. Everyone seems to get the feeling that they are not good but no one knows what they are. The word demon gets mentioned a lot, though, and I can understand why.

Thank you so much for NOT bringing that to my attention. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I'll be expecting a grey goose martini as soon as the cantina opens. Very dry. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

OfflineSomething very similar happened to me a few years ago in my kitchen as well. It was exactly like when you`re in the garden or the park and a plane or a bird flies above you, yet this time instead of the shadow being in the floor, it was on the ceiling. For years i thought it was just a reflection of a shadow from outside my house, but now i wonder.
