Audio Triggers

Need some ideas from the great folks here. I always carry my mini-laptop to all the investigations. On it I'm starting up a file for mp3 files that I can download onto a mp3 player on the go. These files are going to be audio triggers at investigations. For example, there is one house that when we go back to, I have a clip of a baby crying. The idea is that the baby crying should trigger the ghost that lives there since it is reported to be a female that likes to watch over the children that currently live there. Right now I'm needing more ideas or suggestions for other trigger clips.

The ideas that I have right now are:

Some gospel music.

Some church sermons where the preacher is asking for an "Amen" from the congregation.

Music files from the last century or so. Get a song to represent each decade.

What else?

How about the beginning of a prayer- like the Our Father or the Hail Mary. See if anyone will finish it.

Maybe I will send you a recording of my husband's snoring, that'll wake the dead /laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I like the prayer idea. I hadn't thought of that.

Snoring is actually a good idea. That might be a need for that on a residential case.

Maybe a Gregorian Chant sung in Latin might get a response from a negative ghost. Also a baby or children laughing might get you a response from a female ghost.

FYI In Catholic belief(and I'm sure in other Protestant religions, too), if the spirit doesn't acknowledge or respond to the prayer or bible passage properly or at all then you're dealing with a demon using a familiar form to haunt. Might be an interesting idea to explore.

Gunshot is an idea, I hadn't thought much of just regular sounds. Some sort of explosion might be good also.

I didn't know about the Catholic thing, I'll have to remember that one. I'm not sure we have any Catholics on the team.

Jilla08- your right, Usually a priest performing the rite of exorcism is when one gets a response(according to Catholic tradition).

RyanNREMTP- If there is a possible way to get a trigger response from a spirit or demon I think saying a prayer that denounces satan or praises God would be your best bet. Here is a link for a prayer that might trigger a response(i'm Catholic and this is my own personal opinion about the prayer).

I hope this helped.

Ryan, did you use any trigger sounds in your last investigation? If so, anything interesting happen?

I think that some animal sounds might be useful (dog barking/growling; cat purring/meowing; horse whinnying; horse hooves on packed earth/ pavement/ cobblestones). I also think that in addition to the music from different time periods perhaps the jovial sounds of people laughing and having fun at a party or dance.

Just a thought but…wouldn`t using firearms sounds be a little aggresive? it`s like when people start swearing or daring the ghosts to do something…what i mean is…wouldn`t that just provoke the ghost? maybe you`ll have a reaction but it probably won`t be a kind one.

You don't have to have an actual gun – but an audio of a gun shot. Remember this is a "Trigger" (no pun intended) to stimulate a possible reaction.

Yes i know that…My concern is, wouldn`t that kind of sound be too aggresive-like to the spirits and cause some sort of "angy" reaction (i don`t know if they really have feelings anymore).

First off I realize that I read your post incorrectly – please accept my apology.

With very rare exceptions .. I think I can count them on one finger … was there any 'agrresive behavior' from a spirit.

Mine was specifically a demon .. no question mark … and I knew full well that something would happen, I was just caught off guard as to just how physical the demon would get. (Lesson learned)

But this was very clearly and specifically a demon and not a 'ghost' – 'spirit' as I think you mean.

So I would not even begin to be concerned – UNLESS: you suspect a demon, then all bets are off.

Some other sounds that could be recorded and used as audio triggers could be things one might normally hear in that environment. For example, if you are investigating a hospital, it could be a recording of someone making announcements over a PA (code blue, calling Dr. Fein, etc.). In a library, it could be the sound of books being shelved or a librarian shushing patrons. Whatever kind of sounds happened in that area would be good to replicate. I don't know either if spirits have feelings or possibly have PTSD but I would tend to agree with Dracorix that gunshots and explosions might definitely work to get a reaction but that kind of baiting should be weighed with the desire to be respectful and conduct the investigation in an ethical manner. I also agree with JJ that if you even suspect that it is of a demonic nature, all bets are off.

That is all stuff to consider. Didn't Ghost Lab use a gun shot as a trigger once and got some interesting results. While I do like some of the stuff they do, there are lines that I won't cross. I tend to respect the ghosts and don't want to do anything that would irritate them and make it worse for the clients that have to live there with them.

A number of tv investigations that i've seen have used the audio/video playback. Most recently with Ghost Adventures sending music out in Infrasound (No Comment). Strangely the theory rarely seems to get as much of a response as you might expect. Ryan, what might be interesting is to test the response(s) given with the sound present and then without. I'm sure you are probably already trying this, but it could start to give, at least some idea if the theory holds weight.
