I have managed to see a few ghosts though not as much anymore...My Mother as well has had her share of experiences...Both of us are firm believers but my Father on the other hand is not...and he is a complete skeptic. It may be because of that or not but he has never even one seen a ghost (that he had admitted at least). Even the experience of the "painted plate" that we all saw move he tried to convince everyone it had been a mini eartquake ^^

I have been lucky enough to have seen two ghosts. Both were full bodied but translucent. One was my grandmother many years ago. The most recent was my wife's father. I had never met him but he looked like the pictures of him I saw after the fact. I didn't feel threatened at all. In fact I was at ease. I think Grandma came to say good bye. We are still trying to figure out why I saw her father.

As far as an actual apparition goes, I have seen four. (assuming you count shadow people, which accounts for 2 times) At least two or three of those occasions I think it was the same one though. But they are out there, I will assure you of that. I have found that things will happen when it is the furthest thing from what you expect, at least that's hoe it always happens for me.

I know I shouldn't be afraid of them, but unlike how you want to see a ghost, it is always been one of my greatest fears. At least my most recent incident didn't send me running.

I've started to wonder about cemeteries, and spirits. You have your grave diggers and caretakers, some caretakers live in a house on the cemetery grounds.

I know of two caretakers that had this job their entire life, and lived on site.

Maybe the spirits of those who worked at a cemetery would come back to their cemetery, just a thought.

If you follow the line of thought, spirits come back to where they were in life.

Now, I'm wondering how many caretakers got buried a their place of employment.

I guess I can add my 10 cents.

In all my years I have never been scared, seen a spirit in a cemetery or any of the more popular experiences you read so much about. So when I hear another like all the rest I tend to just ignore it. I am not saying what others say is not true. I am just saying that my experiences have been different.

Before going on please take into account that I am talking of spirits or ghosts and not smoke, mists, orbs, etc. I mean the actual experience of a spirit whether visual, audible or just feelings.

Now over the years these are some things that I have found and they don't all go along with the main stream of thought.

I have realized that at conservatively, 95% of all spirits were normal people. Moms, Dads, Brothers & sisters, etc. These are in most instances were nice people while alive and the same now so nothing to be scared of.

I have never seen a spirit in a cemetery, hospital, prison or any of the most common places you see on TV or used for public ghost hunts. Not that there are none in those places but if we are to believe spirits were once people then logically I cannot see why someone would frequent a place in death that they tried to avoid with all of their being in life. So, I would think that they wouldn't be overrun with spirits, thus making them hard places to find spirits.

I have also found that most spirits have a message, usually for someone specific. However, it is our egos or whatever that always presumes the message we get is for us.

Also, (this might get some negative feedback) not everyone can or will see a spirit and many who say they have, really have not. There is no fool proof way to see a ghost on queue. They see us as we see them. On occasion and mostly by accident. However, there is one thing that I have found that might peak your curiosity and might get you the results you seek. However, I have also found that many people think it is Taboo and won't do it, although I can't see why.

If you are interested I can tell you and it isn't anything earth shattering but I have not found anyone who has done it except for me so far but I have rattled on too much for now.

Most cemetaries do not have as many ghosts as you think. There really isnt that much energy for them to draw on there

Why would they want to waste all that energy anyway to show themselves to someone who doesn't believe? Usually they are appearing for a specific reason or to convey a message.

And, why would they want to hang out in a cemetery? Not where I would want to hang out.

Also, I have been taught that it is not their intention to frighten us. If you are afraid, they will stay away from you. They just want us to know they are there and that there is life after death.

I'd never really thought about it, but I suppose that could be the case. But Ryan makes some valid points in terms of the type of haunt may indicate/dictate the appearance (if any) of an apparition. Personally, I've always thought it interesting how the apparitions people report are always indicated by color ie: Lady in white, blue, red. Another website I used to belong to had a theory about the color of an appartion at the moment I can't quite remember the details. Just imagined all ghosts/apparitions to be pale/translucent etc. Welcome to PUG btw !!

Who knows. All we have are myths, legends and theories to go by. My opinion is that the ghost or spirit will appear in what they want to. But it also depends on the type of ghost reported. Intelligent haunts might wear what they preferred while they were still alive. Whereas the residual type is usually a moment stuck in time so the ghost if seen should be wearing what they wore when the event transpired.

But once again no one has all the answers to what we are all seeking.

For one, don't try so hard. When you try to find a ghost, you are looking for a perceived experience from what you may have heard or read.

What you may need to do is research places in your area that have had many sightings of the same thing. Then frequent these places at the times of these sightings. What I mean for example is, if the sightings are being experienced by say, tour members at a battlefield or fort, then don’t go at night expecting to see or experience anything. Always keep an open mind and mainly “be aware” of everything that goes on around you.

Also, don't just go to places & cemeteries, etc., like the ghost hunters you see on TV. TV shows you, they do this all the time and almost always see nothing.

So far, no one I have ever met or heard of can purposely see a ghost at a given time. It is a hit and miss type thing.

Most of all. Don’t get discouraged if you don't get immediate results. There is also something that very few people do, although I could never figure out why. Here is what I mean.

There is something to be said for the term, "Go for what you know." Most people have experienced the loss of a friend or family member yet they always try to contact or find strangers.

Now I am not saying that this approach is a given but personally knowing someone who has passed gives you an edge in that you know more about them and what they liked, how they acted and where they liked to frequent. Doesn't it seem a little more feasible that you might contact them, rather than hoping to contact a stranger? I think it might be worth a shot in your case. Just my opinion.
