Okay so I was just wondering if there was anybody else in this wordl that actually beleived in mermaids… and um *cough* fairies. Also does anyone have any good website links on the mysterious merfolk that actually takes it seriously… even though its very fun to not take it seriously.

I actually have a very firm belief in fairies. Though being a Wiccan we typically do. While Im not 100% sure there are Mermaids like I am fairies I do believe there are. I really don't know of any sites but Im curious as to any as well. There is so much deep in the ocean we have no clue about (and scientists readily admit this). It would be interesting if one day all the "ocean tails" turned out to be true.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

(1) eat less,

(2) don’t ask for money all the time,

(3) are easier to train,

(4) normally come when called,

(5) never ask to drive the car,

(6) don’t smoke or drink,

(7) don’t want to wear your clothes,

(8) don’t have to buy the latest fashions,

(9) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and

(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ..

I want to believe in them, but Destination Truth did an episode about them and the scientists say that the mermaid would have to be very different physically than we think they are. Of course science has been wrong before – and often – so I'll keep the faith. I do believe that there are fairies, but they also may be very different from the cute little fuzzies that people think of.

yep, I actually beleive in the fairies of old in Scotland and Ireland… they were more like dwarves really just in that they lived differently and had different faiths and "abilities" than normal human beings.

I think that the mermaid myth has been disproved many times before. Of course new creatures are always being discovered……so there's always a possibility.

I do believe in fairies. Or I at least want to believe in them. So much folk lore out there, that I feel like the stories have to have some truth to them.

lots of people say that the myth has been disproved but in reality not really. They say that people just mistake them from manatees, but manatees only live in warm waters and most of the mermaid myths come from europe were the water is naturally very cold. Also people say that fisherman may have mistaken them for seals, but thats also not very likely since an experienced fisherman would know the difference between a seal and a mermaid.

The "disproves" are about as concrete as the "proof". Theres no way to know unless we are able to be every where in the ocean at all depths at once (impossible). Im not saying there are mermaid like Ariel. With the air and water breathing without gills or a way to switch from the lungs, sings, makes huge cities, etc. but I believe there is a variation of what we think of as mermaids out there. And dont think we have any reason to believe that they couldnt be yet. Maybe someday we will know for sure, but we arent close yet.

true true, its like almost every cryptid out there, theres no way to prove or disprove its existence… if there was it wouldn't be a "cryptid"
