Besides the obvious of keeping a myth alive and kept it fed …

To you why do people work so hard to feed Myths like Bigfoot, Snowmen, Glowing Redeyed Creatures ….

In a word? Notoriety. In four words? 15 minutes of fame.

But: cryptozoology is an interesting field. Animals once considered cryptids (like the okapi) where actually found to exist. I don't know that we can write off a lot of cryptids just yet. Doesn't make them paranormal. Just makes them hard to find.

That being said: I've mostly been a non-believer in most cryptids. Haven't seen anything to convince me otherwise, but I'm always open to possibilities.

The same could be said of things like the Easter Bunny, Santa, and a person whose name begins with G and ends with D and has O in the middle, although most would disagree with the last one.

People just like to believe in these things, it adds mystery to life and sometimes, mystery is a good thing.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try.

John Lennon

That which is unchallenged and exercised as habit rapidly becomes ritual.

When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment.

Yes. I still haven't decided whether the God one is a supernatural belief or not. I feel the same way about that one, by the way – I've not seen anything that convinced me one way or another, but I'm open to the possibilities. Call me agnostic or wishy washy – either works for me.
