They say the governor's mansion here in Delaware is haunted….but most governors nowadays do not live in it, they live in their private residences….

I wonder if the Governor's Mansion in Texas is haunted. Guess we'll never know, his mobile home burned down a few years ago.

You folks may want to spend the night in ROOM 129 at the Quality Inn, General Lee's Headquarters in Gettysburg (located on Seminary Ridge). You want to be scared out of your wits? That hotel is extremely haunted. I was getting ready for bed when I heard some strange tap-like sounds coming from a window near the bathroom. A few minutes went by, and I am busily repacking my duffle bag when I hear someone coming into the room….well it sounded that way: I heard the knob and dead bolt being very suddenly messed with and then the next split second as I am running toward the door to tell the people ," Hey, you've got the wrong room….it's occupied already!" the upper, horizontal latch swings open and the **** door literally bursts open. I am suddenly standing in my pajamas facing a parking lot and wondering who the hell tried to come in. Only problem, no breeze at all (it's July 7, 2010, a week after the official 147 year Battle of Gettysburg celebration) and it's a sweltering 80+ degrees outside, at night (it's 11:55pm). I felt a freezing area in the door way for a few seconds and then just the oppressive heat coming inside the opened door.

Here's what I think happened: my husband and I had just finished a Ghost Tour downtown Gettysburg. We had just come from Cemetary Ridge area where we'd gone up LeFever Street to a school now on the grounds of that horrible bloody field of battle 147 years ago. We were allowed to walk freely into the woods a ways after the tour broke up. Disappointed that we felt, yes, creeped out in those woods, but not seeing a ghost, we sauntered back to town and down toward our hotel. I remember saying to myself when I got back, "Gees, I can't believe we are leaving tomorrow without a paranormal experience. I can't believe this is our second, and last night, and nothing weird has happened." Well, about 5 minutes later I was starting to feel differently.

I believe that the ghost followed us back, or answered my wish to appear, and came out of the woods behind the hotel, into our room, and then promptly left at 11:55pm. Meaning, when I thought someone was coming in, all indications with regard to noisy door and locks actually sounded more like someone in a hurry to get out!!

I freaked at the thought, and I am still freaking out about it.

I'm SO glad you posted about this! I was told about it after the fact. I had wanted to speak with you personally so I could gather the facts and report it in my column here "Diary of a Haunted Hotel."

FYI, I have had the private, locked door in the lobby open many, many times (with the lock still in place). We have also been told of another similiar incident with a locked door in the Fireside Suite (located in the back of the hotel). So, I'm not surprised at all to learn about this. But, there is so much that goes on there that not much surprises me anymore.

Thanks again for posting your experience at Quality Inn at General Lee's Headquarters (where I work). It is an awesome place.

Carolyn

P.S. We have had tremendous activity in Room 135 (not far from your room) in the last two weeks. A full body apparition has been appearing. You will have to read about it in next month's edition of PUG's magazine to get the scoop!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Renata!

That sounds extremely intense, and I think that what happened sounds like more than a breeze blowing the door open.

I'd like to see something on the White House. Granted I think access is a little limited.

I am going to the White House in October. You do need to have your background check done many months in advance and you need to go thru one of your state's Congressmen to arrange an "invitation" of sorts. If I get the heebie jeebies from anything other than being in the vicinity of smarmy politicians I will let you know!

Oh my God, and I've got the Fireside Suite booked for next August? Well, I guess I had better brace myself, huh? Maybe I need a heavy piece of luggage to place in front of the door. Ha!

Eh, I got nothin'

I'm going to suggest the USS Intrepid Air, Sea and Space museum docked on NYC's westside. It served throughout WW2 andwas the subject of Kamakazi attacks. I should look more into it and will post more.

I've been there a few times and didn't get any wierd feelings other then the sense of history but I haven't been back since it was taken out to dry dock and 're-furbished so maybe the work stirred up something?

I'm not always right but I'm never wrong.

The above are my opinions.

Well, I went on vacation and saw so many amazing places. My tour of the White House was white washed so I didn't get neary a feeling in that place but I must say that Arlington Cemetery certainly exuded some very strong vibes for me. I also went on a ghost tour of DC on Halloween night and that was very interesting to hear the haunting tales of St. John's, WH, Decatur House, Dolly Madison and more. I will look thru my pictures and see if anything seems unusual.

How about Greyfriars cemetary in Edinburgh, Scotland ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G…..s_Kirkyard

"The Greyfriars Cemetery is reputedly haunted. One such haunt is attributed to the restless spirit of the infamous 'Bloody' George Mackenzie buried there in 1691. The 'Mackenzie Poltergeist' is said to cause bruising, bites and cuts on those who come into contact with it and many visitors have reported feeling strange sensations. A schoolboy, hiding in the vault to escape a beating from a master at George Heriot's School, supposedly got trapped here and lost his mind on being confronted by the ghost. Visitors who take the City of the Dead ghost tour, which has access to the Covenanters' Prison, have indeed emerged with injuries they have no recollection of sustaining. Even more interestingly, a number of deaths have taken place in the Kirkyard itself. The television show Scariest Places on Earth featured Greyfriars Cemetery."

It is one pardon my language, "hell" of a spot at a particular place in the Graveyard!

Closer to home for me, if you don't mind looking beyond the States, well pretty far beyond the States /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> , guess where I live ? /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Is this spot

https://picasaweb.google.com/harry.warren/I…404696340122306

The building featured was actually built from a destroyed burial cairn i.e. a stone age passage grave, it is not a very good idea to disturb and desecrate these ancient sites so I am not surprised at what subsequentley occured!

Montpelier Hse (Hellfire Club)

The Hellfire Club a ruined building near the 383m (1,257 foot) summit of Montpelier Hill in the Dublin Mountains, County Dublin, Ireland. It was built around 1725 by William Conolly, the speaker of the Irish House of Commons. The Irish Hell Fire Club (founded 1735 by Richard Parsons, 1st Earl of Rosse) held meetings at the house. There are many lurid stories of tales of drinking sessions and black masses as well as ritual sacrifices of black cats and several murders!

Haunted or not it is a very weird, unsettling place!

It is one pardon my language, "hell" of a spot at a particular place in the Graveyard!

Grayfriar's is a really creepy place. The cemetery was once flat but is now a hill because of all the people buried on top of each other. There are supposedly big mass burials of plague victims. They used so little dirt between and on top of burials that bones come up on a daily basis. Our tour guide warned us not to touch them since they might still have plague bacteria on them. /blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> No one knows how many people are buried there because they just took up the stones, tossed them aside and buried new people directly on top of the others, using just enough dirt to cover the bodies.

Part of the cemetery was used as an outdoor prison and hundreds or maybe a thousand people or more died from exposure and starvation. The survivors were hanged at the direction of Bloody Mackenzie. It's strange that the cemetery has such a horrible history but nothing truly frightening happened there until a homeless man broke into a crypt one night and came out screaming, terrifying a poor local man walking his dog through the cemetery at the time. At that point, all hell broke loose, so to speak.

Supposedly even the buildings around the cemetery have all had activity since the homeless man broke into the mausoleum. Lots of people, including tour leaders, have been attacked. Several people have had to be taken away by ambulance after they lost consciousness in the mausoleum. Nothing happened to our tour group, but there was definitely a very weird feeling in there. It was a cold evening, but the air inside the building was absolutely freezing. It was like walking into a freezer. No place else was that cold.

An exorcist who tried to clear the spirit actually died right after the exorcism, which probably is a coincidence but . . .

As of late I would have to add the Historic Hotel Bethlehem that we did earlier this year. Sorry it isn't as spooky as some of the others but just as haunted I would think and very interesting.

It and it's property has a long history dating back to 1741 and stories from guests and staff are reported almost weekly to this day. Their guest list in the past century boasts people from Roosevelt to the Dali Lama. You can Google it but those stories fall far short of what goes on.

Firstly, I wanted to say that, being a Portlander, I love your "Tales from the Haunted Heathman Hotel." /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I was also wondering if you've ever checked out our Shanghai tunnels that run underneath the city, since they're pretty spooky, have quite a history of evil goings-on taking place in them and are reputed to be very haunted, (I want to take a tunnel tour this Halloween season myself!)

As long as they don't include Madonna or Sean Penn.

Boy, that would be a surprise.

Hi Lena,

Dave Galvan touched on the Shanghai tunnels in his article in our January 2011 issue. His "Seven Haunted Wonders of the World" included a brief writeup on the tunnels, but I think it's a great idea to do a more comprehensive article on the location!
