Walter Cronkite just passed away.

Bummer – but I think that one was expected.

He was like family. I grew up listening to him.

They just don't make em like that anymore.

Good nite, Mr. Cronkite!

My earliest memory is my mom ironing, crying. I asked what was wrong and she replied the President, JFK was dead. She knew it was so because Cronkite told her.

Walter Cronkite was the last of the true broadcasters cut from the Edward R. Murrow cloth (in fact it was Murrow who recruited Cronkite from AP to join CBS)! A broadcast news reporter. It is very correct that you will never see another like him because of the advent of cable television and with it 24 hour news channels. In this day & age of empty suited talking heads hired for all the wrong reasons, Cronkite was an icon because he'd been out in the trenches himself and broadcasted from them as well. It's laughable today to see a weasel like Geraldo Rivera "reporting from the front" puh LEASE. Cronkite glidered in w. Allied troops to cover the Battle of the Bulge. At this point Dan Rather might actually be the last w/live combat on his resume. Cronkite is the gold standard by which broadcasters will be held for sometime to come and rightly so….and that's the way it is, sunday july 19,2009
