My friend Meg just recently had her 18 year old cat put down due to an unbelievably aggressive cancer. Her other cat grew up with Nikki, as did her 13 year old dog, Cubby.

The other animals are keenly aware of his absence as well as Meg's grief. I believe animals grieve much like we do.

Peanut was very tenacious. My hope is that he comes home to his families: human and animal.

I hope your other dogs bounce back swiftly.

Thank you, everyone. We have more reason to believe it was a coyote than just a disappearance. The other two dogs who were out with him started barking like crazy. Jim grabbed a gun in case it was a coyote and ran outside. By the time he got out there, Peanut was gone and the other dogs are now refusing to go outside. One has cowered under the couch all day, refusing to come out at all. I tried to take her outside, and she will have nothing to do with it, which leads me to believe there is little hope for Peanut. As much as I wish he would come home, I doubt he will unless he ran really fast in the opposite direction. My guess is he did the opposite and ran right up to whatever was out there, barking at it. He always had more brave than brains, but he was a very sweet dog.
