OfflineI type this out to only mark the passing of the man. For many years he was a beacon of what was "good" in sports, specifically collegiate sports. It seems ironic that a man who forged his reputation for doing the right thing, lost it all for his inability to do the right thing. So sad on so many fronts it's shameful. We hear these kind of stories alot about these older folks who are forced into retirement or lose their long time spouse they sort of lose their will to live.
I'm not going to make apologies for him because that would belittle the horror show that was going on behind the scenes up there in Happy Valley and the victims who's lives it effected. But I will say it serves as a classic example of a life lesson JRR Tolkien talked about in the Lord Of The Rings. There will come a time in our lives when we must make a choice, between what is right and what is easy, unfortunately it would seem (IMHO) that he chose what was easy. Had he taken a proactive stance we would be celebrating his legacy not cursing it.
