Academy award winner for the movie Marty, he went on to star in well over 50 movies.

In 1962 he starred as Lt. Commander McHale in McHales Navy on tv.

He was born in Ct, and in 1935 joined the navy. In 1941 he rejoined after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

He is the last of the tough guy actors. They just don't make them like that anymore.
