NEW YORK – Author Dominick Dunne, who told stories of shocking crimes among the rich and famous through his magazine articles and best-selling books including "Another City, Not My Own," about O.J. Simpson's murder trial, died Wednesday in his home at age 83.

Dunne's son, actor-director Griffin Dunne, said in a statement released by Vanity Fair magazine that his father had been battling bladder cancer. But the cancer had not prevented Dunne from working and socializing, his twin passions.

In September 2008, against the orders of his doctor and the wishes of his family, Dunne flew to Las Vegas to attend the kidnap-robbery trial of O.J. Simpson, a postscript to his coverage of Simpson's 1995 murder trial, which spiked Dunne's considerable fame.

Did this man have a show on True/Court TV?

I paid no attention to OJ, couldn't look at him on TV after what he did!

Yes, he introduced true crime cases and added some brief commentary during the shows. It was pretty good.

I remember him now, he was good, sort of feisty. I liked that!

Didn't think he was that old.

I'd turn his shows on while I worked, something I could listen to.

Wow, so many are passing, it's sad.

His daughter, Dominique Dunne, was a promising actress. You might remember her as she played the teenage daughter in the movie "Poltergeist." Dominique was tragically strangled to death by her then abusive boyfriend, a chef at the famed "Ma Maison" restaurant in L.A. John Sweeney was charged with manslaughter and, in a controversial move, the judge refused to allow evidence of his abusive past into trial. As a result, Sweeney was convicted and given six years in prison and served only 2 1/2 years.

Mr. Dunne then became a victims' advocate and began his career following and writing about other high profile trials. His books are excellent.

Mr. Dunne also has a son, Griffin Dunne, who appeared in "An American Werewolf in London." Griffin is now a director, but he still appears in front of the camera as well.

RIP. You are with your beloved daughter now.

Now THIS is sad. Hopefully Mr. Dunne will find the peace in death he so richly deserves.

Very sad. Not unexpected, as he was very ill. Love his TV show. I'm watching a marathon of "Power, Privilege and Justice" now. I'll miss him.

I didn't realize that his daughter was the actress that was murdered after filming Poltergeist.

I didn't realize that was his daughter in Poltergeist, either. What a shame she was so young. I remember his son, also now.
